As Biiiiink says a room over the garage, that wasn't designed as a bedroom and they couldn't think of a name for it so "bonus room" is the best they could come up with.

Insulated properly it should be no cooler than any other above grade room in the house.

I absolutely love my bonus room. When we first moved into our house I thought that the large open plan room was was a bit odd, but they are great.
It is the place we go to relax after a long day in the office, with the large lazboy sofa and the big screen TV. We also have a view of the Rockies from our bonus room window which is awesome!
I love the open plan design of the Canadian homes and the use of lots of natural light with the large windows.
