Try Google Street View for some of these places to get a sense of what it's really like.

So basically Northern BC is primitive; therefore making the most appropriate areas to settle Vancouver Island, Lower Mainland and the Interior.
Thank you for the honest and open opinions, it’s given me real food for thought; it has really focused the area of research considerably.
Much appreciated.

Like I said, if you're looking for a northern town which doesn't have these problems, look at Whitehorse. The only thing is it's sub-artic

Hi
Just curious as to the list of places you were interested in. Ever thought of Vancouver Island. Its a fantastic place to live with lots of choice as to the size of the city/town you live in. You could go for a biggish city like Victoria or more rural communities like Courtenay, Comox, Campbell River?
For what its worth, me and my husband travelled round BC for 6 months looking for a place to finally settle down. We have been to all of the places you listed. Out of those I would say Vernon is my favourite. However, don't rule out the Island - its got lots to offer

But why would anyone want to eat deepfried chicken skin, sinew and tendon covered in sauce?
The OP needs to look at which provinces their nursing qualifications would be accepted and where there are jobs. I know Ontario requires nurses to have a degree but I don't know about the others.
Rural Canada is not likely to offer decent Indian restaurants, unlike West London.

There is no doubt that Terrace and PR are beautiful places to visit but I"m not sure about living there. The wet climate and remote location would drive me crazy. The nearest 'big city' is Prince George.
In my opinion, PG is a hole, avoid the place like the plague.
Vernon is similar to Kamloops but much prettier so as a consequence, housing is more expensive.
Kelowna would be my choice if I were to do it all again.

I would agree with the above comments. Rural Canada can be a very challenging place to live. From afar communities can appear appealing; however there can rampant drug and alcohol issues. Remote communities can be difficult places to live. Some of the people living in such communities can be downright scary. I am not convinced that they are the best places to raise children. Towns such as Kelowna, Kamloops and such are better bets as they will have a more diverse population living there. They also are home to some beautiful ski resorts.
I had the pleasure (?) of spending a period of time in Cranbrook. The surrounding countryside & mountains are among the most stunning in the World. Equally, The City of Cranbrook is one of the most ugly grim towns you're ever likely to set foot in. One long strip with the regulation mall plus fast food joints, motels, auto dealers & 'box' retail outlets plus a nearby downtown district full of thrift shops, seedy bars & empty retail units.
The ratio per population of potheads, alcoholics, hard drug users plus gambling addicts who would blow their fortnightly cheque's at the casino was staggering. Everyone it appeared knew somebody who was afflicted with the above issue's. Anyone in the 'Social services sector' is always gainfully employed in Cranbrook.
Agree 100% about not wanting to raise children in that type of community. My children are now young adults - I wouldn't have wanted to raise them in that environment. The ratio thing I mentioned leaves kids more exposed to the dangers of the above vices.
Rural living in Canada isn't comparable to "Englands green & pleasant land" I'm afraid.
The only thing Cranbrook has going for it is, it isn't Sparwood - More commonly known as "Spermwood" due to the questionable gene pool of many residents!

HI WE ARE IN OUR EARLY 50'S AND FROM LIVERPOOL AND LONDON BUT WE MOVED FROM TORQUAY. WE HAVE NO CHILDREN BUT WE CAME TO BC ARRIVING IN CALGARY. WE SOLD OUR HOUSE AND CAME JUST WITH A TENT. WE WERE PLANNING ON GETTING AN APARTMENT IN VANCOUVER AFTER A 6 WEEK ROAD TRIP THROUGH BC. WE WERE DOING THIS TO SEE WHERE WE WANTED TO LIVE. WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH MANY TOWNS FROM ALBERTA TO TORFINO ON VANCOUVER ISLAND. WE ENDED UP HOUSE SITTING AS ALOT OF PEOPLE GO AWAY FOR THE WINTER THEY CALL THEM SNOWBIRDS. WE HAVE HOUSE SAT IN CALGARY FOR 5 WEEKS (A SOULESS CITY) AND WAS COLD EVEN IN AUGUST. KELOWNA FOR 6 WEEKS IN LAKE COUNTRY. COLD IN THE WINTER THAN VANCOUVER ISLAND. PICTURESQUE BUT ONCE AGAIN AFTER THE TOURISTS LEAVE EMPTY IN THE CITY. VERNON (DEADVILLE) WE ARE TALKING SEPTEMBER NOT A SOUL AROUND ON A SUNDAY. THIS REGION IS LOVELY AS ITS WINE COUNTRY BUT NICE TO VISIT. VANCOUVER A GREAT CITY BUT WHERE DO YOU SETTLE. STAYED THERE FOR 2 WEEKS BUT EXPENSIVE TO LIVE. SOME AREAS ARE REALLY ROUGH WITH GANGS. NOW VANCOUVER ISLAND. FIRST STAYED IN NANAIMO 5 WEEKS. NICE LITTLE TOWN BUT DYING BECAUSE OF THE BIG MALL UP THE ROAD. LOTS OF SQUALID AREAS THERE NOTHING TO SEE REALLY EXCEPT A MALL AND SOME PARKS AND OCEAN. PARKSVILLE STAYED 4 WEEKS. (LOTS OF RETIRED PEOPLE BUT BETTER THAN NANAIMO. QUALICUM BEACH. LOTS OF RETIRED PEOPLE BUT A NICE TOWN NOT DEAD IN THE WINTER BECAUSE OF THE PENSIONERS. THE ONLY PLACE TO LIVE IN THE WHOLE OF CANADA FOR CLIMATE (ITS BEEN THE MILDEST WINTER WE HAVE KNOWN IN YEARS, MUCH WARMER THAN TORQUAY). ITS PICTURESQUE. HISTORICAL, HAS A NICE FEEL. GREAT PUBS (ENTERTAINMENT 7 NIGHTS A WEEK, OLD FASHIONED LIKE ENGLAND. AND THE PLACE THAT GETS OUR VOTE IS VICTORIA. HOUSING PRICES ARE HIGH HERE TOO BUT YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF A JOB HERE. CHECK OUT PRICES FOR SAANICH, AS THEY HAVE MAINTAINED THEIR PRICES AND ITS ONLY 11 MINUTES INTO THE CITY BY CAR AND ITS BY THE OCEAN. SIDNEY IS A REALLY NICE TOWN. QUITE AFFULENT AND NOT FAR TO VICTORIA TO DRIVE FOR WORK. DONT LIVE IN DUNCAN OR DRUNKIN DUNCAN AS THEY CALL IT. PRICES CHEAPER BUT HAS THE MOST TOTEM POLES BUT HAS TROUBLE TOO. ANYWAY HOPE THIS HELPS. IF WE WERE YOU JUST RENT DONT BUY AT FIRST. PRICES WERE INFLATED BECAUSE OF THE OLYMPICS AND PEOPLE ARE SELLING CHEAPER NOW. OUR NEXT HOUSE SITS ARE ON THE MAINLAND IN CHILLIWACK SO CAN LET YOU KNOW AFTER WE HAVE BEEN THERE AND IN BURNABY NR VANCOUVER IN AUGUST SO DONT KNOW YET. CHEERS AND GOOD LUCK. YOU WILL MISS THE UK THOUGH, YOU CANT BEAT THE UK AND WE DONT KNOW IF WE CAN STAY HERE LONG TERM AS THE CANADIANS CAN BE QUITE INSULAR AS THE DISTANCE BETWEEN PLACES IS GREAT. VICTORIA IS GREAT BUT LIKE ANY CITY YOU WILL SEE BEGGARS, THE CITY IGNORES IT.

Caps Lock is between the "Tab" and "Shift" keys on the left hand side of the keyboard.
An interesting appraisal but lacks critique; it is your opinion (which you are 100% entitled to) and therefore subjective. I think it misses out a great deal of factual and objective information, meaning that the OP needs to treat what is written with a large serving of caution.
In summary, this is how you see BC, not how I see it and which in turn may not be how the OP would see it. For instance, Nanaimo has scuba diving described by the Cousteau Foundation as "second only to the Red Sea", great access to the mainland, a superb shopping and entertainment infrastructure and wonderful scenery. Describing these as "a few parks and the ocean" is like describing Canada as "mostly flat with some hills in the west and wet at the edges."
