We're here!

Hi everyone.

My family and I have arrived in Calgary

No problems with the protestors at Heathrow, flight was delayed by an hour due to congestion. Immigration was easy - definately pays to have paperwork organised in one file - I couldn't believe some people infront of us in the queue who couldn't find important paperwork and spent minutes frantically searching pockets etc!

Our condo is very nice and will do until our furniture arrives late September. Hopefully by the end of today we should have sorted our social numbers, AHCIP, driving licenses and bank account. Then we start looking for a car!

Still adjusting to time difference, it's now 5:20am here - my son got into bed at 3am and kicked me out! Give it a few more days!!

Anyway, we're really glad to be here and our experience two days in is very positive.

Cheers

Your post reminded me of when we first arrived over 2 yrs ago now. We rented a condo for the first 3 months and lived a very minimalistic life until our worldly goods arrived. IKEA is great for all those necessary bits and pieces, and CHEAP.
Good luck with all the organisiation, and hope you find a nice car.

We when emigrated we went into Calgary. They were so nice it really was a nice end to a truly awful and stressful day. We were the only ones aswell. Was confusing them all banging on about getting windscreen insurance... only after a week and noticing all the crack screens on the cars we understood why.

Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. For those back in Blighty - I'll keep sending good vibes across.

Only 3 days in and we've achieved so much. Social numbers, AHCIP, Alberta Driving Licence, Bank Accounts, test drive in new car. We're still in a honeymoon period obviously - but I already have a good feeling about this place, difficult to put my finger on exactly what it is.

Roll on Friday - we're heading off to Banff  My mate has recommended Wild Bills - can anyone add to this??

Good luck - you have chosen a great place - I was there last week for a recce - might be joining you soon enough.

Wish you all the best, and good luck finding a car and do get windshield insurance - take a look around at the number of cracked shields!

Some recent pics from our trip.

Nice photos - especially the rather freaky skateboarding Cow-Bart cross breed!

Funny you should say about the crack windshields (as Londonuck said earlier) - I've never seen so many - some are so bad a wonder how people can see out of the car! Probably explains some of the poor driving I've already seen!

Good luck with your endeavours.

Cheers

Oh, don't get me started - the bad driving in Calgary was sure an eye opener - rental was a compact and boy is it scary with all those trucks tailgating!!!
Buy yourself a nice F350!!!
