Well we have done it
 

Today is the day, my partner has given notice at work, contracts exchanged on the house. We move at the end of October..We are scared, excited and as a family looking to the future. Its just finding work in canada now but atleast we have at least 6 months lee way before things get scary, money wise. Thanks for all the support so far.

Thankyou. It feels really good. Flights will be booked tomorrow.. Removers coming on 28th Sept. Although scary, if we didnt take a risk, we would always regret it..

hi guys good luck with everything . I noticed youre going to Cambridge, we are moving out in Nov and are looking at Cambridge too. Hope you dont mind me asking but are you renting a place or buying , if renting who did you get the place through . Thanks alot , once again hope all goes well

Might it not be a good idea and a bit less of a risk for whichever one of you has the best job prospects to go on ahead now and try to get some work sorted before all of you arrive?

It is not very long to be apart and it would take so much pressure off in all respects.

You would be able to get all the SIN numbers, driving licences, bank accounts, phones and all the other things that are essential within a few days of arriving done without the family being there to begin with.
You can look for work intensively, without distractions.

Hopefully that will be fruitful and you will find gainful employment.
Then, when they arrive, you can concentrate on the good things about your arrival safe in the knowledge that all the groundwork is done and your financial security is assured.

We did that helcat and I regret every single minute of it! Yes it's a risk to move without a job but the stress I put on my husband for the 4 weeks he was here without me was probably worse than the stresses of being here without a job. Maybe it works for some and not others...

Pardon me if I pull rank on this one, but I have been living and working alone in the UK while my husband took up his new Canadian job over twelve months ago now, after not being apart for more than a few days in over 16 years of marriage.

In that time we have had the stress of a new job for my OH, LMO renewal, house finding, house selling here, I have had to pack up all our belongings and our cats and make all the shipping arrangements alone.........
What we haven't learned about the stresses of living apart during this process isn't worth knowing:D!

However, it is investment in your future security in Canada.
What is a few weeks apart when weighed against the prospect of finding the 6 months goes by all too quickly and the money goes down all too quickly and work does not appear?

If that happens, how long are you going to risk waiting before you ship all your things and your family back to the UK?
And if you think that this won't happen to you, you only have to look on this very forum to see the heartache and financial distress this exact situation has caused to many families.

No-one said this process is easy and sometimes you might have to take the decision to do things you may not like for the greater benefit later.

I deeply regret my husband and I being apart for so long and we haven't enjoyed it, of course but a few weeks?? - spouses work shifts on oil rigs and go to fight in Iraq for longer than that on a regular basis:eek: It is hardly a long time.

I would call it a drop in the ocean compared to the possible benefits and a jolly good investment of time and energy at this point for the OP.
The time will fly by and it will be an extremely happy reunion if the family can begin their life in Canada with some financial certainty.

Just my opinion, of course....
