Hmmmm .... it's Sep 20th ... I'm just waiting for the snow to arrive.

One of the survival tricks in Calgary is to forget the weather almost instantly ... but I get the feeling it has snowed by now last year ... it usually arrives sometime after the start of school, but well before halloween.

It transfers from the air to the tree, kind of like spray paint! It will be back tomorrow to finish the rest of the tree ;) :D

I love the colour of Canada in the autumn. I have spent many a moment in the past just soaking in the atmosphere by the Credit River in Mississauga. A pity they have built so many poncy* houses there recently.

*poncy. Adjective. Absoutely lovely and way beyond my price range.;)

You both deserve some karma, but first I must spread some more around. Anyone knows a good post that deserves karma too?

I either give random karma to all the new members I can find, or head to a forum I dont usually frequent ( I find nurses often deserve Karma;) ) and go on a Karma spree there. Its a stupid system anyway...dont worry about it!

Uh .... no I know what it feels like to shovel the first snow fall of the year off the driveway.

Mrs G agrees ... we'd rather walk hand in hand along a beach ... want to swap locations?

Well there is the definite "nip" in the air. only a few trees have red leaves not really very many. It is cooler than normal but is suppose to warm up.

No.....you see you're not working the "kid system" properly. You buy both boys a shovel and show them how to shovel the snow.......with the incentive that you'll play hockey on driveway (if there's enough ice underneath).......worked every time with my brother and I.

Or......once they learn how to shovel properly (my dad always told me there was a knack to shovelling snow in Winnipeg....to me snow was snow)....you let them do it to show them responsibility, hard work and how proud they'll be of the job they did. (Man when I think back how stupid my brother, sister and I were at that line - worked every time).

I would never change places and have snow 8 months of the year - a little bit at xmas is enough for me.

The snow doesn't bug me as much as the rain .... I hate rain ... my old knees just can't take the damp anymore!

I'm a Hertforshire boy, too. I was brought up in Hitchin, though I don't live there now.

My wife said that one has to walk like a penguin - with one's feet sticking out - to ensure not falling over in the snow and ice. Is that right, or is she trying to make me look silly...?

I think you may very silly like that Rhodes!! I lived in Welwyn Garden City from age of 10 to 16, parents were there 20 years now in Hatfield, have a sister still in WGC. And it thought you were a born and bred Londoner.

In Hertfordshire??

You could try walking that way, but you'll probably fall flat on your back ... over here in Calgary we solve the problem by attaching big chunky snowchains to our foorwear or by wearing by spiked wooden overclogs ....

In London and thereabouts. We don't get much ice and snow, but the track to the station where we live now is pretty treacherous when it's icy. I found that the best way to stay upright, other than by staying indoors, was to be quite bold. Oh, and not to be where anyone else can see you.

Perhaps she was referring to when a person learns to ski..my daughter starting learning to ski (well, in her own way) and was learning how to snow plough.....where you do go down a hill in sort of a pigeon walk fashion on skiis - this helps to keep the movement slow!!!1
