Hi all

I havn't been on the forum for a couple of weeks as we have been busy settling into our new life here in NB.

It has been an eventful time.

we arrived on Monday May 7th.

By 11am on Tuesday morning we had new driving licenses, had filled the form for medicare, and got our sin numbers.
All very easy and straightforward.

We had a hire car for 10 days so finding a car to buy was a high priority.

We found a 2000 Dodge caravan at a local dealership which hopefully will be ok.
It felt like driving a tank at first (I am used to a Vauxhall Corsa) but I am getting used to it slowly.

Closing on our hobby farm wasn't so straight forward.
We were supposed to inspect the house at 1pm last Wednesday but the man wasn't out.
We had a look round and agreed through the lawyers hat he would be all out by 7pm.
We went back at 7 and he still had stuff there and had left the dog and two cats in the house.
Anyway eventually he was out by 9 but still had to come back for stuff the following morning.

He still has the garage full of stuff but that will all be out by next week.

The house we knew needed work doing to it but is worse than we had first thought.
The kitchen is an old hand made job that has seen better days, but as we can't afford to change it we are just painting it inside and out to brighten it up.
Also the previous people were smokers so the house smells and all the blinds light fittings etc need scrubbing.
Its worse in the basement. They had put plumbing in for a second bathroom but hadn't re done the floor and the cats had been using it as a toilet.:eek:

So we have been cleaning for days.

we have finaly moved in today. We are sleeping on an air bed and have some old basement furniture that a friend was throwing out.

While all this has bee gowing on our dog who was supposed to be flying out on June 4 has been really sick and will no longer be coming over.
In fact he will probably have to be put to sleep on Monday.
My poor sister has had to deal with all of it and it has been hard to be away at such a time.

Anyway Its getting late and I am just putting off going to bed. The airbed isn't tht appealing and tommorow will be another day of cleaning and painting.:thumbdown:

Despite all the stress and bad news from home
I feel very positive about being here.
It can only get better.

I am so sorry about your dog, that is so sad for you guys :( These things always happen at really bad times dont they!

I love sleeping on airbeds - my husband and I spent months on one in our first home before we could afford a bed and we (and 2 children) did the same when we moved here. Top tip - sleep between 2 duvets..........toasty!

Sounds like seriously hard work, but get it done now and you will feel great! I bet you will add so much value, whatever you do. Enjoy it if you can! :rofl:

Cant wait to hear more!!! What are you both doing work wise there??

You made it and it will get better. Sorry to hear about your dog though. Once your shipping gets here it will feel more like your place. :thumbup:

Congratulations with the move- hope eveything carries on to go well.

Understand totally about the dog. My mom is going to have a real bad week

Friday 18/5 had her dog put to sleep

Saturday 19/5 hospital called to say grandad had been wandering around the streets during the night and someone had called an ambulance as he was disorientated.

Sunday 20/5 My great aunt in Canada passed away

Friday 25/5 am taking my daughter to stay in Canada with her dad.

Feel so very very sorry for her :( and you too :(

Thank you all for your kind words. All very much appreciated.

As expected Chester (our dog) was put to sleep today. It is the only time so far that I have wished to be back in the UK.

Having said that now that al lthe uncertanty over his illness and whether or not he is coming over is at an end and we will begin to move on.

We have spent the whole of today painting and the kitchen is begining to look very much more bearable.
