My OH hit a wasps nest last week with a weed wacker - he got stung 6 times on his face & neck - he did look really funny, flapping and dancing about!

The first summer we were here (BC) the wasp population was huge - there were a couple of months during which trying to eat outside was virtually impossible. The past 2 summers have been ok, but neighbours say it seems to go in cycles. We put up bottle traps in trees which are effective and can catch hundreds of them over a weekend. No mossies where I live though, so it's a reasonable trade :thumbup:

:eek: Thats one scary item of clothing, I think the insects would take one look and just turn right on back from wence they came! Along with friends, family, colleagues.............

Mind you on the flip side, no need to feign a headache ever again - imagine

On a serious tip- set up a quarter full jam jar> place some paper over the lid> puncture a wasp size hole> set jar at side of house> marvel at how cruel you can be while silently chuckling to yourself at the poor helpless wasps stuck in the jar.

We were walking through Mill Creek Ravine last Saturday and my son stood on a nest at the base of a tree. Thankfully he didn't damage it too much and we managed to get away without any stings <stops sweating and sighs with relief>.

Hate em, hate em, hate em. Walked into a nest when I was younger and have been petrified ever since.

Might invest in one of those darn attractive coverall thingys!!!:eek:

Took that in the Grand Canyon, didn't realise what it was till I got home and looked it up on the internet :ohmy:

Wasn't getting any closer than that and the camera was on full zoom!

I dont think its even that specific. I live quite close to Jane, and havent noticed anything in the way of pesty wasps...may be its just something local to her...old fruit trees or something?


It has been a dry summer though as she says...thats partly what is driving the early changing of the trees I suspect.

It's starting to cool here in Calgary and the wasps food sources are drying up.

There were a large number of them yesterday flying around our birch tree, obviously something of food interest to the wasps but too small for us to see.

Good to know! Maybe she has a nest in her garden and doesn't even realise!! :eek:
