Default Warning: driving licence renewal

Word of warning for everyone driving in Canada. When you renew your driving licence make sure you have MORE than 90 days left on your work permit. If you don't, they will need proof you have already applied to extend your work permit. Otherwise they will not renew your driving licence.

Even though we had the application in place the two registries we tried in Lethbridge refused to help us, they would not even make a phone call. The fact they were putting my wife out of work meant nothing to them. Western Licencing & Astro were the culprits. The registry in Claresholm called Edmonton & all was ok. The licence was renewed.

Perhaps note that this refers specifically to Alberta and is not necessarily applicable to other Canadian provinces/territories. Although individuals should always be familiar with local driving license regulations.

Same in BC too, need 6 months left rather than 90 days though. Is Stupid, there should be a way of renewing a license at least upto the end of a visa
