Hello,
I'm new here, my name is Simone I was born in Watford UK, lived there my whole life and I moved to Alberta, Canada in 2005. My Mum was Canadian so I was able to get dual citizenship.
I work at a public library where I'm a library clerk and also do programs for kids. I've been working there 6 years this month and the director said to continue being a library programmer, I have to get my library tech which is a 2 year course.
The course is avaliable online through Nova Scotia Community College, but it says
Admission Requirements
•High School Graduation Diploma or equivalent, including Academic Grade 12 English
I finished school in 1993, took GCSEs, I think I passed a couple and got D's and maybe E's for the rest. I contacted my school to see if they had a record of me finishing but the school has closed down and there is no record of me having attended.
I'm going to apply to AQA which hopefully have a record of my GCSE's but I'm wondering will that be enough for "high school graduation diploma or equivalent" it's been about 20 years since school, but I did stay till the end (which of course is 16 in UK) this seems a hurdle in the way to me starting the tech course.
Do you think this will be enough for the college to admit me into the course?
Thanks
Simone

I believe Grade 12 English is the equivalent of midway between GCSE's and 'A' levels.

Could you use your prior experience to do a credit challenge?
http://www.nscc.ca/services/rpl/faq.asp#4
Challenging for credit focuses on what has been learned experientially, and/or through informal (non-credit) courses, etc. It is unique to each individual. The process involves NSCC assessing the individual's learning
Otherwise, could you do your GED? More info here: http://gonssal.ca/index.shtml and the Nova Scotia Community College run one too: http://gonssal.ca/Adult-Learner/High...colleges.shtml
Another alternative (sorry, just thought of it) - can you find a different college who offers this course online and who makes allowances for 'mature students' ? I know my local one does - http://www.mohawkcollege.ca/distance...echnician.html - it would be worth your while to see if there is one in NS or the vicinity.
