Welcome ! My family and I are also looking at moving. The best place to start is the wiki on this website - it's a mine of valuable information.

There are over 50 ways to get to Canada the wiki or this site gives some details
http://www.canadavisa.com/

BTW no need to use a lawyer just that this site has good info on it.

We also looked at city visa for information but there is no way we would pay them a penny. The Canadian government decide who gets in and no company can help you jump the queue. Although it seems daunting when you first start reading up on it, all the paperwork can be done yourself. The CIC (Canadian Immigration) website is helpful, and every Canadian province also has its own website with plenty of information about immigration. Believe me, you will soon be obsessed !

Check the wiki article on immigration consultants.

Maybe consider another bit of the UK, its a lot easier, its not all chavs and neds. Life in Canada is largely the same shit in a different bucket, It doesnt seem any cheaper, and its a long way from friends and family. And I like canada and have been here nearly 15 years...

Right, but I guess what I dont get after living here so long is what exactly is that, other than snow on the ground for 4 months and mosquitos for the other 8;)

People talk about it but its always ill defined or some wishy washy crap about opportunities for the kids, like the UK lacks that. my impression is that many people bring whatever it is thats bothering them about their life with them anyway, so a lot of hassle can be avoided by looking at other ways to change your life without crossing the atlantic with all the stress and expense that goes with it.

I guess I just know too many friends and family that are happy with where they are in the UK.

If you WANT to move to Canada to be here then good luck in your research and application. Be wary of running from the UK and just picking a destination as your "escape to"

Hi
Check out this link it's the CIC eligibility online checker -

http://www.cic.gc.ca/app/ctcvac/english/index

It's a good place to start and it should give you a basic idea of your eligibility plus combine this with wiki search as others have advised.
Hope it helps
All the best

For the most part, weather in the GTA is so much better than the UK. As in steady hot summers and cold winters. Almost anytime we want to do something we find that the weather is not normally an issue. Barring last week when it rained, uhh that was a reminder of what we were missing.

Other than that it's the same work life mix you would get anywhere in the Uk.

Ohh yeh and for the sceptical nah sayers, lol, kids stay kids longer, cheese, bacon blah blah blah

His words are wise, that's for sure

I'd say I've been rubbing off on him but no doubt some immature poster would take it out of context.
