Visiting Toronto on a budget
 

Does anybody in the Toronto area know of any reasonably priced accommodation available this summer? I'm coming to visit one of my kids with the 3 others and need something cheap-ish...
So if anybody knows of anywhere clean and simple I would be most grateful! So far I can't find anything that appeals. I really only need somewhere for us to sleep so don't want to pay huge amounts...

I'm going to piggy back my request for assistance on this thread
I have a wildly optimistic conference attendee this summer who would like my assistance in helping him source " guesthouse like" accommodation for himself and his wife this August for a budget of $600 for the month !!!

Any thoughts ?

Haha, the more the merrier... Actually Zoe we stayed in a lovely place in Toronto in March through Airbnb. Worth your friends taking a look... sadly the place we rented last time is already booked!

Motel 6 in Oshawa. Clean, basic. relatively cheap. You might be able to negotiate a better deal than the one advertised

There's a Comfort Inn in Pickering which has a good reputation. Three minutes to Hwy 401 and then 30 minutes drive to the city. Alternatively take Hwy 2 for a 45 minute drive. There's also a GO train station nearby.

Try Kingston Road on the east side, out Scarborogh/Toronto way, near the Bluffs. 15-20 mins into Toronto

I had no idea that people asked so much of conference organizers
I've been asked to sort childcare , camps , itineraries for spouses and now cheap accommodation

Back in 2007, me, Mrs BristolUK and the two teens stayed in a "family" room at a sort of backpackers place as a stopover on the way from Montreal to Niagara.

It was about $60 total, in summer. Breakfast was included but we had to leave too early.

It was basic, but clean...reminded me of "self catering" cheapies in Greece. But it's all we wanted. About 5 minutes from the bus station I think.

Don't recall the name or anything but when booking it did seem there was a good selection for that sort of price.

Yes that hotel is OK

Is it handy for TO, no, money saved on the hotel will be used in the tank draining away stuck in Traffic on the 401. I would say give it an hour, to two hours into down town, depending on the traffic issue on that day, and the same back.

Dont even think about commuting at 6-9am or 3:30-6:30 pm :thumbdown:

hmm, downtown Toronto?? Where is your son??

We stayed at that place when we had to be in TO by 8am and couldnt' bear getting up at 4.30. It was unexciting but fine.

I will stay tucked up in bed until 9am I promise :). Where we live right now, every single car would have to be on the road to struggle with the traffic the way you describe... Will be reminicent of the M25! But I have a super economical car so it shouldn't cost too much!


I actually found a studio 6 in Mississauga which has kitchen facilities so that's I think what I'll be going for... He lives near the Islington Golf Course...

Student housing, out of term, is basic, cheap and not too disease ridden. This place http://www.neill-wycik.com/ is central. Coming out of the front door after dark turn right and walk briskly.
