Hi,

Lots of suggestions in this thread...
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=572185
...not all children related but will spark some ideas.

Chinook Centre and Southcentre Mall are two of the key indoor shopping malls. Plenty of shopping downtown.

Hope you have a fabulous visit.

Kind regards,

Eamonn & Janet.

the chinook mall is great for shopping and has an imax cinema.....

the zoo is good, on a warm day......

heritage park......

take a trip out to drumheller and go to the dinosaur musemn, it's brilliant! whilst there, go out a little further to the hoooooodooooooo's! wierd......

day trip to banff......

cochrane for the ice cream and to see an 'old town'.......

the C.O.P is quite mad, especially as 'eddie the eagle' threw himself down it and is still a local hero.......

go visit all the showhomes in the north of calgary.....great fun for kids as they can hurl themselves around and you just get to walk away........having gone 'oh' and 'ahhhh' over all the houses and enjoyed wine and nibbles......

the stampede is in july.....loads of 'cowboys and indians'.......hellishly busy and probably better for teenage kids.....

enjoy.......personally, i like vancouver better but i'm just biased, right?.....

Butterfield Acres, in the NW is fun for little ones - if the weather is ok...Telus World of Science has the Kid's Museum which is great fun...Go online and look for coupons...Most of the 'big' places have two for price of one coupons (put in something like coupons for Calgary attractions and they should come up) You can save a fair bit...Oh and let's not forget that Calaway Park (kids amusement park again in NW) is now open at the weekends!!! The kids LOVE it!!

Also remember that if you are desperate to find a playground you are allowed to use the school ones....As long as the school kids are not all over them....I knew someone who complained bitterly about Calgary not having enough playgrounds 'cos they didn't know that you can just go onto the school grounds!!

HTH Have fun.....

I am sure a 6 year old and a 3 year old will love most of those:confused: What planet are you on?

Show homes, Stampede in May/June, days trips to Banff, looking at an old town, I bet being a kid in your house was a laugh a minute

Heritage Park is the perfect place to take kids too, we went so many times last year I lost count.

As previously mentioned Heritage Park

We went for the opening weekend (last weekend) bought a great value annual family pass and our kids loved it. Our kids are 3 and 18months but both enjoyed the paddleboat and the steam train as well as the cars in Gasoline Alley.

The kids will love the tower but won't take up to much time.

Shopping - Chinnok mall as mentioned, will fulfil all your shopping requirements.

Southland Centre has a family swim on sunday mornings, there are different water chutes covering all ages.

Would definitely agree with:
Heritage Park
Calaway Park
Butterfield Acres
Calgary Zoo
Royal Tyrell Museum (if you don't mind a bit of a drive)

I don't rate Telus World of Science (feels a bit dated and run down to me)

If you're Downtown on a nice day Princes Island Park is very nice and has a good play ground.

Again, if the weather's nice a trip out past Bragg Creek to Elbow Falls is a nice way to get a little bit of outdoors without too much effort.

For shopping I like Chinook and Market Mall (bear in mind no-one comes to Calgary for the shopping!)

Enjoy your trip.

This might sound stupid but during non-peak hours you could ride the c-train. My kids use to love that when they were small. I thought it was just them but a friend who has young ones now says his kids love it too.

we went 2 years ago, july, stampede was exellent. But please go to Banff, breathtaking, you will fall in love. we drove through foothill & stopped off at beautiful waterfalls, a place called sheeps river. Knowing that there are grizzly bears up in the mountains made it more exiting for the kids

Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is free and a nice little walk. You sometimes see some deer in there and lots of ducks, birds etc.

The Calgary Farmers Market is a good place to shop and walk around.

Heritage Park is a must for kids. It's lots of exercise and some rides etc.

Edworthy Park is good to stand and watch the big CP trains go by near the river. There's a little play area etc in there also. There's a Dairy Queen on Bow Trail near the entrance so you could do it with a Blizzard in hand too!
