I meant as a comparable city by population. Although the authors of this article seem to think Leeds is the best city in the UK.

I had an interview in Vancouver today, 11.35/hr, not sure it's worth the commute... Amazing how low wages are in such a pricey place.

We have considered getting rid of the car and using that money towards rent and living in Vancouver, but not sure that would even be enough for an apartment in a good location close to transit. We are still looking into that option.,

Sure, I was just wondering, though, that if you were thinking your current out of town location made the likely commute for this job difficult, maybe there was another out of town location with an easier commute with a rent that was more than now (but not as much as Vancouver itself), but maybe the extra rent could be paid for by the extra income from wages.

What about becoming a realtor...with the high price of average properties and the BC Real Estate commission fee.....wouldn't that provide a decent income?

I have often looked and seen it lower than even New Brunswick
Admittedly it's because it changes at a different time of the year so one moment NB's is better and another BC's is better but you'd think it would be way ahead.
But maybe BC employers are much less likely to pay MW only (or a cent or 2 above) than NB employers?
All I know is that if you are on MW you'll have far more money after rent in NB than you would in BC. And more than enough for the extra winter heating costs too.

We have a somewhat different situation due to the disability issue.
As for the comment about real estate, I wouldn't succeed in such a business.
We all have what we can and cannot do, and yes I am sure many make a nice income on real estate, but it's certainly not for everyone.

I should have said 'one' (has more money left) but I always feel I use that too much.

For example, BC minimum wage is $10.85 and appears to have its annual increase in September (it did for 2016 and due again 2017).
NB's MW increases have been in April and next year it goes from $10.65 to $11. So when one looks between April and September, NB's will be better than BC's and then September BC's goes up to $11.25.
Similarly there are other provinces whose rates likely increase next April, May and June so potentially 4 of those behind BC will be in front for a few months until BC overtakes again.
NB and NS are among them which is quite shocking really. One would expect such 'have not' provinces to always be behind.

So if we add mountains and an ocean to Stoke-on-Trent it will become like Vancouver?
