I've visited Glasgow and Vancouver, haven't lived in either. Glasgow's more fun for a weekend and is much cheaper so it'd offer a better lifestyle if one were to move permanently. Birmingham, Leeds and Sheffield are pretty horrible so I'd rate Vancouver ahead of them.
London, of course, offers more of everything than Vancouver, it used to be much more expensive, which is why people emigrated, but I don't know that that's true anymore. By the time one has moved to Vancouver and paid the new head tax that's a lot of money out of the window for the sake of being able to stand on the roof of one's block of flats and glimpse a mountain through the fog.

i moved to vancouver 3mths ago from glasgow, have to say its really not that much cheaper in glasgow. Yes the cost of housing is cheaper in glasgow, but I've found all things considered (rent, gas, electric, petrol etc) vancouver has been on par with glasgow cost wise.

I thought about starting a new thread for this but I'll just piggyback on this one instead.
Moncton nicer than Vancouver - official
Today's Moncton newspaper carries a story about a Syrian family. I remember reading the original report about how they were in Moncton but they had other family (including a brother) in Vancouver and went over to join them.
Apparently Moncton has received 77 Syrian refugee families (well done Moncton) and just five have moved on to other places, while two settled in other places have moved to Moncton.
Anyway, this family with all the advantages of other family in Vancouver after two months of being there have returned saying they prefer Moncton to raise their family and start new lives.
They felt safe and welcome here.
They are now trying to persuade the other family to move from Vancouver to join them

They likely made a good choice Bristol.
Vancouver unless one has money really offers nothing but struggle.

Often heard in Vancouver. At least we dont have to shovel it.
Yes its such a bonus not having to shovel this torrential rain we've had for the last 4 weeks.

I find it interesting how many people who don't live here have a negative opinion (yes I know there are also some from Vancouver residents). I'm a firm believer in life is what you make it, and after 42 years I still feel I live in Utopia, rain and all.

It's certainly a world leader in smugness.

Having flown out of San Diego after dark and into and out of Seattle after dark yesterday, Vancouver is the least appealing of the mix at night.
I generally like Vancouver but its a tad boring with not much to do in my view unless you like the outdoors.

I find it somewhat ironic that the people I know in Vancouver are smug about living next to Kitsilano Beach "not in some suburb" when the beach got so dumped upon on this thread. Of course, I can say that because we live at the elite end of our field, not like them cows and horses at the less sought after end.
