Vancouver and Victoria
Visiting at Christmas to visit the Outlaws. Any tips on things to see?

If you have children, the lit up miniature train, Santa's workshop, etc., at Stanley Park in Vancouver.
Christmas lights at Butchart Gardens near Victoria.
I assume your outlaws, if they actually live in these places, would have some suggestions too.

Would you honestly ask your Inlaws for suggestions on places to go?

Anything Downtown Vancouver? Anyone?
At least I now know why all you Brits complain about how crap the TV is- it's probably all you do.
*sigh

Take the gondola up Grouse Mountain, skate on the outdoor ice rink, visit Santa (he does not really live at the north pole) and take a sleigh ride through the forest. Finish off with a nice dinner in the Observatory restaurant, with views across Vancouver. For the restaurant you'd need to book quite a few days ahead and if you eat in the restaurant the gondola ride up the mountain is free.

Is the food any good though?

Downtown Van... you could take the harbour tour ferry, go across to Granville Island, go to the science dome, check out the aquarium in Stanley Park, H.R. Macmillan space centre, go up the Harbour centre, take a peek at the steam clock
Victoria... BC museum (and iMax), bug zoo, go whale watching, take a floatplane tour, wander round the city and look at fishermans wharf, the harbour etc, go on a horse and carraige, the underwater thing in the harbour, eat and drink at the thousands of restaurants

Christmas at Canada Place is worth visiting, and if you are there around 6 pm you can watch the carol ships go out.

If in Victoria over at the base in Esquimalt is having a boat and building decorating/light competition every night till Christmas Eve. 6-9pm. Turn up at the gate, go on a tour of the base on a bus and vote at the end. Entrance is by money or food donation for Charity.

Downtown Vancouver:
Spend a day in Stanley Park and visit the Vancouver Aquarium.
Have lunch at Sylvia's across the street from English Bay, then stroll up Denman Street then stroll down Robson Street.
Visit tacky Gastown and grungy Chinatown in the early afternoon, or skip it all together.
Windowshop in trendy Yaletown then take the water taxi across False Creek to Granville Island.
Take the watertaxi to Vanier Park and visit the Vancouver Museum and the Maritime Museum.
Grouse Mountain is only worth visiting on a clear day. The restaurant charges 50% more than similar restaurants down in the city.
Drive out to Horseshoe Bay on a clear day and have lunch at the Boat House restaurant.
Drive out to VanDusen Botanical Gardens at night for the Christmas light displays.
