Not sure about all the way to Horsehoe Bay, but a cab from the Airport to Downtown is usually around $40

60-80 dollars are the estimates I found online. Assuming your not stuck a long period of time not moving.

Taxis | YVR
Link gives you standard fare zones from YVR to Vancouver.
I just put YVR to Horseshoe bay in the black top cabs app and got an estimated fare of $69.30.
Estimates from these guys are normally a little on low side so I would bargain 75-80 bucks

Ouch! On taxifarefinder it was $90 - including an $11 tip and presuming light traffic.

There's Limo's Flat Rates | Aerocar Service | Vancouver Limousine Services |
Mind you, for the sake of a stress free trip - not having to find your way there and deal with traffic, it may well be worth the extra cost. At least with a limo or taxi you'll be able to enjoy the scenery and chit chat together!

I got my price from a cab website, however it did not include a tip and and was based on average traffic, which reality its probably busier most of the day and above average traffic costing more, really just depends on the bridge traffic and downtown.
OP: I presume you are going to the island? It will cost more, but have you considered maybe a sea plane from YVR South terminal to avoid the fuss with the ferry?

What JS said: you might be able to get a cheap flight with Harbour Air.
Or you can do the really cheap trip: Skytrain to Vancouver City Centre then Express bus to Horseshoe Bay (257). Even with the $5 add on fare at YVR that would only be about $10 total.
Apologies I just noticed what you wrote about your son but leave it on the post in case useful for anyone else.

What would be super lovely fantastic and awesome is if a kind BE member offered to help you out and drive you (for the cost of gas and bridge tolls) and maybe a beer at the end!
Just putting it out there!

Re: vancouver taxi guesstimate please?
I know you said your son cannot handle public transport but I agree with Snowie that the Skytrain and Bus IS stress free/cheap/quick....especially on a weekend.
The train leaves directly from the airport and the 2nd last stop is Vancouver City Centre. Just go to street level and cross the road to the bus stop for the express bus to Horseshoe bay which stops outside the ferry terminal.
I did it both ways in June/July. It was really easy and I'm 79 and just recovering from major surgery. They have special seating on the bus for infirm/wheel-chair/seniors.

Re: vancouver taxi guesstimate please?
Also it would probably be even less than $10 total pp, despite the $5 YVR add on as the OP would be travelling on a Sunday.

Re: vancouver taxi guesstimate please?
Seems to be about a 90 minute trek, just checked a random Sunday and time, so suppose it depends on time of day and frequency of everything.

Re: vancouver taxi guesstimate please?
Yes the one zone fare ($2.75) applies on Sunday + $5 YVR add on = $7.75, $1 less for a child, I think 13 or less. That's what I'd be doing but I don't have an autistic child and realize this could complicate matters.
Or how about taxi to Vancouver City Centre, followed by Express bus to Horseshoe Bay. The flat fare taxi would be about $35, then the 257 to Horseshoe Bay ($2.75 each or maybe $1.75 for your child).
