Not sure I would agree. Poilte, middle-class and well off would be my description. There is a relatively significant aboriginal group of students but other than this very little diversity.

You know perfectly well that I wasn't talking about a diversity of manners.

I really like Toronto and Vancouver. But they are very different cities.

I suppose this wouldn't be a good moment for a link to alllooksame. Nonetheless, just as Europeans are not visibly diverse, South Asians are not.
At UBC, we only saw a subset of students,a few hundred. Obviously, law isn't an area in which interesting ethnicity is encouraged, perhaps there is diversity in other faculties.
And no, I didn't intend "black and Arab" to be a comprehensive list of the world's ethnicities, just a couple of visible minorities I'm used to seeing every day. There are few hispanics in Guelph or I would have noticed that there aren't many of them in Vancouver either.
I do wonder, if people genuinely think Vancouver to have a diverse population, if it's not just the pc thing to say, what would they make of NYC?

DAMN I look hot today. I like the way the drizzle softens the edges around my eyebags.

I also liked NYC though it's a bit crowded for me - I did notice it was much more segregated than Vancouver though - which is something I noticed much more in the East in general - ie. black people in service positions, white people not.

So the diversity that you notice is the visible kind. Language, culture, food, religious belief, etc. etc less so.

Re: Vancouver, don't get it.
I find it weird that, in posts like this, the only people who count as non-homogenous are black.
That's weird.
And yes, there aren't a lot of black people in Van -that's true. But there are lots of Asia-Pacific people, with all their different languages and cultures and stuff, around 50% of the population in Van I believe. Cos, like, Vancouver is a pacific city, not an Atlantic one. But I guess they don't count? I dunno. It's weird.

That failed, then.
It is clear now that people who live in Vancouver find it cosmopolitan and ethnically diverse. As a visitor, I noticed less of a mixture of all colours of people. I posed a question up-thread which has gone unanswered, perhaps it got lost in all the strident keyboard bashing. I only wondered f there are ethnic neighbourhoods where people gravitate, similar to Toronto, or if everyone just mixes in together. If it is the former, then I would better understand what I noticed as a visitor.

Please note my use of the words "for example". I threw it in there twice to avoid having to list every ethnicity under the sun and to fend off any petulant jibes that, by picking one colour of person, I am somehow being a nasty racist.
That failed, then.

Surrey, Richmond, burnaby...yes there are ethnic neighbourhoods. Esp. Surrey cos it's cheap(er). If you wanted Indian you should probably have gone to Scott Road, but it's not pretty...

Re: Vancouver, don't get it.
Forgive me, but aren't those places suburbs of Vancouver, or cities in their own right, or something? Just asking, I'm not bothered to look it up or anything. I did not have time to head to the outer reaches to find the cosmopolis, maybe next time. Incidentally, I had dinner with someone who works for the City of Richmond. She's white but was an overt lesbian so there's a point for diversity.
