Update on reccie in NS
 

Hi all

As you all know i am on my first reccie in Nova Scotia, currently in Truro but am heading to Dartmouth next week.

Driving - once i got the hang of this i found it to be quite easy, still a bit nerve wracking but i think that is just me!

I have been driving around Truro, meeting with potential employers and with Margot at the RDA, which was very good - lots of info to think about, lots of emotions and thoughts to work through etc.

I am heading up to Tatamagouche Saturday. I have done as much as i can in Truro now and am just waiting to see Margot again today to see what happens next. I am also hoping to meet with another lady at Colchester hospital next week and am meeting with a lady at Capital Health in Halifax next week too, so fingers crossed all this networking will pan out and help.

If anyone is in doubt about getting work in this country, then this is definitely what you need to do. Come over on a reccie and meet people. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, although most employers, I have found, do not know about the immigration process so you will need to let them know what you are trying to achieve and why you want to live here.

The key here is networking, networking and more networking. The more people you can meet the better and they prefer to speak face to face. So no use in just applying on line or by snail mail. The RDAs are very helpful and you definitely need to get a contact with one of them and prove to them that you are definitely wanting to live and settle in their county/province.

Anyway will keep you up-dated by for now :thumbsup:

happy to read that everything seems to working fine on your recce!

and happy, very happy, that the going-there to find work really works -- as this is what I plan to do next as well. Hm, wonder how many months prep work I should permit myself before a recce...

Thanks, i thought of you today, as i met another British couple (from Kent, i think, originally) who now live in Stewiacke, which i think is where you said you were going to be looking initially.

I had a drive down to Stewiake yesterday and it seems nice, small but nice.

They seemed nice and have just bought a decent sized house in Stewiacke, so if this is still where you are looking there is at least one expat couple living there, (i think they were called Albert and Lynn? although not too sure and they are both in their fifties, kids and grand kids still back in UK).

They told me that this move was the best thing they have done.

Anyway, just thought you might be interested. :)

We live 5 minutes from Tatamagouche and have found our move here great for the most part. Tatamagouche and the surrounding area's are great for families etc and not far really from Truro, Amherst and New Glasgow although maybe a pain sometimes in winter. If you were coming to Tat at the end of the month we have the Octoberfest and you have just missed the filming of "the week the women went". There is a big contingent of brits up this way. We are at the moment waiting for our CI application to be decided upon and should know soon. Hope all goes well when you visit our great town over the weekend

We are hoping to move somewhere near Truro - went there for the first time 3 weeks ago and loved it!!! (currently have fingers crossed for a job offer)

We met Margot too and she was brilliant!

Just quick update yet again. Just got back from weekend at the North Shore of NS. Malagash, Wallace, Tatamagoushe etc. This area is absolutely Stunnning, gorgeous, beautiful and hardly any cars on the road, so nice and quiet and peaceful. This is, i would say IMHO, the perfect corner of paradise.

Truro, where i am currently is nice, but i think eventually once i have residency, i will definitely be looking along the coast somewhere. I need to be near the sea. - No point in moving all this way, if i cannot be near the sea. However for now until things pan out i will stay in Truro/Colchester area - until i win lottery anyway, as property pretty expensive, at least for my limited funds, up on North Shore and i need to be close to employment opportunities anyway, so will eventually get my little corner of paradise one day. :p

Nice weather over here today, warm with a breeze, lots of mozies though, but i guess this is the price you pay for wanting to live here!:D

Any way will let you all know what is happening again soon, By for now

Way to go Emma... I knew you would be ok driving... Glad to hear you are making lots of contacts, networking is the key..All the RDA navigators operate differently so you really have to meet each one individually , see you for a coffee when you arrive in Halifax .
