hi there. Can anyone tell me if you have to notify the taxman when you leave for Canada.

If you notify IR that you are emigrating, you can get a hefty refund of tax already paid in that tax year.

You are supposed to. Theres a form for it. IR85 I think. I don't know what they do with them though, I sent mine off and they seem to have just ignored it - still keep writing to me at my old address etc.

More importantly tell student loans company if you have one. They threaten to charge you commercial interest if you don't tell them

You need to send in your p45 with the form, or they will just ignore it. They sent us a cheque to are new address in Canada it took between 6-8 wks.

It`s something I never did, but I will be doing this weekend. I assume it`s the p45 from the last job before leaving for Canada?

Anyone seeing black boxes on the pdf form?

Looks fine here. Maybe you need to update/replace your PDF reading software.

:D Yes from your last job, we had to do it all from this end as OH had already left UK before his p45 had arrived.

Thanks. I left over almost year and a half ago. I never thought to inform inland revenue about my departure. I hope they`re not too hacked off!

I know where my last p45 is fortunately. Lol, a cheque would be nice indeed but I doubt I`ll see one!!

You should get any tax that is due, from the April up until you left your employment in that tax year. My OH only worked 2 wks of this tax year, but he got rebated for exactly what they had taken off him :lol:

If you dont apply you deff wont get a cheque :blink:

fairy nuff, didn't think they would accept a cheque from the UK. I'm owed a few quid from last year so may give it a try as well.

Still have house rented out in UK, so parents put it in my good old, and more importantly FREE Natwest account
