Ah OK you're driving a "special/ unique" car- in the NA context- for a show. You're not just looking for wheels. That changes everything!

The vehicle I brought in was a bike, so no RHD/LHD issue (it actually had a LHD headlight on it. Being Italian you're never going to dazzle anyone no matter which way it pointed, only had a problem once with an over-zealous MOT inspector in blighty).

Remember USA MPG =/= UK MPG as their gallons are smaller. I made this leap when studying a US car mag abroad deciding what to by. 25 US mpg= 30 uk mpg almost on the nose, so if you're looking for an easy correction factor aroud the 20-30mpg mark (most American cars) just add 5.

I was hiring a car in Vancouver and insisted on something local- they were amused as anyone expressing a preference usually demanded Japanese, though Hyundai was gaining traction. I explained I could drive a Hondotabishi anywhere in the world, and ended up with a Pontiac Grand Prix, which was an amusing POS but for a 3 day hire much more entertaining than a camry.

You should also be aware of the difference in octane levels over here. North American Car ECU's are mapped to take this into account.

Do you have a specific car in mind? Is it an MX5 or something like that by any chance?

He said a "novelty car." Perhaps it's an Outspan Orange?
