UK Nurse looking to make Canada Move - BC
Hi! I'm a UK trained (Adult field) nurse with a degree looking to make the move to BC.
I currently work on an acute medical unit and i am wondering if anyone has been able to make the move being an adult field trained nurse? I've seen LOADS of negative posts about how we don't fit the face of "general nurse training" even though it is a requirement of the NMC adult nurses are able to care for peads, obs, and mental health... but anyway!....
I was hoping there is someone out there who has been able to make the move with the adult nursing degree!??!
I really dont mean to be rude - but i've seen all the negative posts about how it's nearly impossible to move to Canada with this qualification. I just want to know if there are any nurses out there who have managed to do it!?? xxx

I believe BC might be recruiting UK nurses and trying to make the process easier but don't know much about it.. You could try Google.

Not so much negative but realistic. Training in Canada is general and covers Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult. UK nurse training doesn't always cover these areas either clinically, theoretically or both. We have seen several UK nurses post that provinces require courses, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Alberta are 3 I can name off the top of my head and these are usually determined after some form of physical assessment. Several of us are several years trained and had hoops to fulfil before obtaining permission to sit the Canadian exam and it isn't always easy or cheap

Yes. I moved over with my RN to BC and registered with BC fairly simply, did my CRNE. As Tirytory said that was in 2009. It has changed since then.
I am happy to help if you have questions on nursing in BC and healthcare etc. But the application process for me was different than it is today.
