UK Driving Licence

Hello,
I want information on driving licence. I hold a UK driving licence which has expired in Aug 2017. I have immigrated to Canada 2 days back on PR, I would like to know if I can renew my UK DL and use to swap it for Canada G licence. As I am not living in UK, if I renew my UK DL giving my friend's address of UK, is it advisable to do that and then swap the renewed UK DL for Canadian Licenece. The issue is I will be renewing my UK.licence showing I m living in UK, and then I will be submitting to DL.authority in Canada. Does CA authorities check.the details. Will there be any issues in doing that.
Thanks

Only UK residents can renew their driving licence...this is an EU law. Using a friend’s or relative’s address is against the law.
