uk driving licence
Hi! Am just about to move to Sask and wondered if anyone knows how long a UK drivers licence is valid in Canada. Do you need to retake and get a Canadian licence? Cheers all

Cheers all every province is different as everyone will tell you on here. in nova scotia i had to retake a driving test and a theory test. it cost about $100 altogether i think. you can drive on a uk licence for upto 3 months. |

Actually smokey, its 60 days you are allowed to drive on your uk licence here in ontario, before you have to swap it, or take a test. Just reading the link you posted, i read that from Aug 1st, those in sask will only be required to display one licence plate at the back of the car.
This will save people money, i hope ontario is going to do the same thing, still can't get my head round the renewing of plates :rolleyes: Originally posted by Smokey Like everywhere else, you can drive for three months on your UK licence. Don't know exactly what you are trying to ask me, because that is not what i said there, you might want to read my post again ! If you go onto the link posted, and read the news on the right hand side, you will see what am talking about, its not like am making it up.
It says there that those in sask will now only be REQUIRED TO DISPLAY THE REAR NUMBER PLATE, i.e you don't have to pay for two ( back and front ). This happens in parts of the US. When you drive on the highway where cameras are located, its your rear licence that usually gets snapped when you are speeding. Once again.....usually you are charged for two (front and back ) licence plates, but according to the link above, those in sask can now just pay for one, the REAR licence plate ! Cars in Edmonton only display one plate too!
If you get an International Drivers Permit you can drive for up to a year or until it expires, whatever comes first. However; you'll have trouble getting car insurance, so this is only good if you're going to rent a car for a year. If you want your own car, you'll need to take a test within 3 months... so I've just found out! |
