Re: Are u voting on Thursday

I'm not voting because my card didn't turn up at my old address before we left there last week. I'd think it may have become part of a postal voting scam if my area wasn't one of the reddest in the country...there'd be little point hijacking votes in Glasgow!

Incidentally, how does one get on the electoral roll in Canada after arriving? (I'm a citizen).

Nope, I'm not voting.

There's no election in Norway that day. :p

Re: Are u voting on Thursday

I've ALWAYS been an advocate of people voting....But this time I don't know if I should bother......Because...
1. It will not make one bit of difference to me as I will be in Canada.
2. Who ever wins will not keep to their manifesto.
3. If you think Tony Blair lies....Then he's no different than Kennedy or Howard...They would do the same.

I think that All the parties have some good points, and if one party put all of the good points together I would vote for them.

For me IF I do vote, I think I'll vote Lib Dems...Silly coz I don't think that they'll not be a credible government, But having a Ginger prime minister has got to be a first.

I'm not really sure about your particular scenario Biiiiink. I would just contact Elections Canada: http://www.elections.ca/

Many thanks HWP, FAQs read, email sent. Seems new Canadians get a tickbox on their paperwork, don't know what happens with half-new-Canadians like me... I'll await their reply.

Patsy, I can't, I just called the Electoral Commission people and they said no. I could turn up at my polling station without the card but I'm over 40miles away in a different city now and don't want to pay the £40 in petrol roundtrip, specially when I'm leaving the day after. I don't think my vote would matter a hoot either way, they'd vote for a lump of coal in my constituency if it had a red rosette on.

Biiiiink - bored, homeless, just dying to get on the plane...

I never thought of the ginger thing.
We used to have a desert that was ginger nuts soaked in sherry. Should have called it the real alternative desert! :D :D

Actually he's getting my vote but mostly by process of elimination :o

No you're right, you don't need the card to vote - but since I'm not near the place where I'm registered to vote, I can't just turn up and vote in another city.

I've been told if I had the card, and proof of my change of address (i.e. the house sale papers from last week) I could have voted here in Edinburgh. But I can't. Oh well. What do I care who runs the country for the few hours I'm here tomorrow ;)
