A Typical Subdivision House
Some folks usually ask about buying houses and what you can get for it, and all that malarkey. Just to give you an idea of a subdivision house, here is a pic below. The average canadian house is between 198k-210k, but if you want extra features, than you will have to pay for that.
Even with a 210k house, you still get 4 bedrooms, a basement, double garage, massive back garden, ensuite shower and TUB, and another bathroom down the hall, and the laundry room is on the top floor too. You are never going to get this in Toronto, you will have to move out to really get this bargain. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...s/SPshouse.jpg What we like about this, is that you get privacy in a way, and its safe for your kids to play around, and there is usally a school in the subdivision. If you don't have business there, you are not going to drive through there, so in a way, its like living in a close. Won't have it any other way ! |

Where is that house, squarepants? Is it in Milton? I rather like it, I have to say. In fact, for a modern house, it is one of the prettiest I have seen.

That is squarepant family home, and if you just look closer, you might see mrs SP in the windows, waiving at me ;) There are similar looking houses next to us, more pretty houses around us, with beautiful flowers on the front lawn and all that.

The same house (mine is very similar) about 100kms outside Vancouver would set you back around $270,000. |

A typical house in Regina - one in a decent area with four bedrooms and a double car garage might cost you between $120,000 and $160,000 - depending on the features. If you went to smalltown Saskatchewan you could get one for a lot less. Like someone said - it depends on where you live. My sister has an older house with two bedrooms and no garage in a kind of swanky area of Vancouver and its probably worth $500,000!!

If you had been rude about the house, that would have been your problem, because you haven't even seen the inside yet. Mrs SP is to the right of the door, look closely.
Oh..the house cost 225k, we are happy with it, as it's just a starter, if we decide to seel in years to come, we should be able to get enough to upgrade, if need be.

Like I said, the further out you go, the cheaper it becomes, but not everyone wants to live in small towns and swanky large areas, we went for the in-between.
If you went to Nunavut, you could probably get it for 50k ;) Here is a good site that deals with new homes, and you can get to read about other people's experiences, and post your questions there, it covers money matters, brokers, and builders. http://www.newhomesreviews.com/phpBB/index.php

So because its not in mls, that means you can't get it for that price? Why would a new house that has to be built for you be in mls? Mostly what you find in mls, are resale homes, and we are not a fan of resale homes.
We still go out on weekends to look at model homes, to get decoration ideas, and last week we were in Barrie, we saw a bigger house with the biggest basement have ever seen, and it was going for 205k. You pick your lot, kind of materials that you want, that include shades of wood flooring, and the new synthetic carpets, the ones that don't leave a foot print when you walk on it. You have to do your own driveway of course. $225k - you must have bought it some time ago then - prices for that kind of home even in Milton have gone up quite a bit.
