If it's like this next year. I'm out.
Trekking to Hooters is far too treacherous.

We have had a cold winter here. But, on Sunday we went to the Sunshine Coast. Blue skies and sunny, shirt sleeves, plum trees combing into flower, dwarf narcissus out, relaxing with a cold beer on the beach.
I know that some people have to live east of the Rockies, but I can't understand why anyone would choose to do so.

Couldn't care less if the car gets dirty. The roads from here to where I needed to get to were not safe to drive today. A lot of it is open farmland and visibility is a huge problem when there's blowing snow. They've even closed it a few times this year, which I've not known them to do before. Reports from friends who had travelled the route today saying it was taking over 3 times as long to get home, numerous collisions and cars being towed out of the ditch etc. changed my mind. So no, I'm not stupid (I don't see that as confidence) enough to drive in that, heavily pregnant and with 2 young children in the back, when I can simply rearrange the appointment. Most of that would have been caused by people driving badly, but if you come across enough of those, how you drive in the conditions often becomes irrelevant.
We still went out, just not there, we stayed closer to home. Mostly the roads around here weren't too bad once you got off the side streets.

Re: The truth about winter in Canada.
I tend to think most Canadians are now sick of winter especially this one unless of course you live in BC.
You want the truth IT ****ING SUCKS.
Tell me how any prospective immigrant or worker will find pleasure in shovelling copious amounts of snow off their driveways at mind numbing minus 40C temperatures.
Scraping layers of ice off their windshields and realizing the smart thing to do was plug in their car overnight.
Experiencing at first hand the effects windchill has on their face and hands if not dressed accordingly. Phrases like it can't be that cold as its sunny outside.
Oh yes folks embrace the winter season as new immigrants and all it has to offer and when you have gone through about 26 winters tell me if you still feel the same way or you end up agreeing that it ****ing sucks.

My husband...who is a little cracker...is out there now in the dark shovelling, and I really will go and join him in a moment...I can't embrace it, it's too much and it just never bloody stops. I go to work to get away from it and all I did yesterday was cancel flights and meetings and equipment that I'd taken a long time making two weeks before! I can't find one possible positive about deep cold heavy snow, that arrives with horrible regularity

Last night and today our snow was washed away by hours and hours of torrential rain here in Halifax.. big rain storm.. houses lost a lot of power due to flooding.
