truely gutted!!!
After almost 2 years of research , we finally ready to go to Calgary! have got all my paerwork in order to go out as nurse , job offer, lmo everything... We have ideas about where we want to live cost of living etc all done...
I have battled with the overpowering Dutch family to let us go, I have worked non stop to sort out our finances... Finally after a year of house on market it sold!! 30,000 less then original start but heh, it is done. Now here it comes..... quick email to Helen Downey, to say "hello " and WHAM sorry no more jobs.... dont come to Alberta , health restructure has put freeze on Int. nurses !! Seriously, suddenly feel overwhelmed with disapointment :( But not prepared to give up just yet... so : Is it fairly straight forward to convert Alberta nurse registration to British Columbia one? Can anyone think of an alternative to BC ? will have to start research all over again! Calgary just seemed to tick all the boxes and that includes the snow! So back to drawing board for us but welcome any suggestions or advice. |
Re: truely gutted!!!
Really sorry to hear your news, there was a lower mainland nurse thread with good contacts who you could ask... see below

Re: truely gutted!!!
Really sorry to hear about that, I know the Alberta health regions have all merged but is it worth checking other cities in Alberta? Hope you find something.

Re: truely gutted!!!
really sorry for your disappointment. I am in BC and there is a freeze on jobs here too ( I am in Public Health) but I understand acute services may still be hiring. Saying that anyone who was 'hired' before the announcement of freeze here has not been told that they no longer have a job so i would question your Alberta contact as it seems you were hired and they should honour that.
As previous post said though take alook at the nurses in Lower Mainland thread - there is lots of chat on there about the situation at the moment. Hope things turn around soon for you Elaine |
Re: truely gutted!!!
Hi
I just did a quick search on Saskjobs and found a whole bunch of nursing jobs advertised. http://www.saskjobs.ca/jsp/joborder/...c_skill_type=3 I'm not sure if you had considered Saskatchewan but it could be the answer for you ...? |
Re: truely gutted!!!
I think Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are asking for Nurses?

Re: truely gutted!!!
Well its Alberta's loss! Stuff them:frown: in fact lets get pitchforks and jag them in their back sides!
You will find a hundred city's that tick all the boxes and you will always find work as a nurse. Good luck and dont give in! PS I have a four pronged pitch fork and I am ready to use it, so give me a shout! |
Re: truely gutted!!!
I know they are still hiring in bc for speciality areas, wishing you all the best......they are desperate for nurses throughout canada, alberta is being very nearsighted but their loss our gain!
tons of luck Terese ps maybe worth a try contacting the nursing union to see where you stand in recovering costs |
Re: truely gutted!!!
Oh bum - cant help - but bum!

Re: truely gutted!!!
And we're short 3000 nurses in Alberta!
Good luck wherever you go. |
Re: truely gutted!!!
Really sorry to hear this. Could you not apply for PR as a SW? It would take 6-12 months but at least then you can go anywhere and work anywhere in Canada.
Just a thought anyway, best of luck finding something else. :) |

Re: truely gutted!!!
I know St John, New Brunswick are recruiting at the moment, I have a friend who is a nurse there.
Have you thought about Newfoundland? We love it there and I was talking to someone in the hospital PR department recently - they are also recruiting nurses. |
