Truck driver looking for work in Manitoba

Happy days I'm a UK truck driver, who also holds a Canadian class 1 driving licence looking to come back to Canada with my wife and young son. The last time I was out there I worked out of Lethbridge , my family stayed in the UK now we are all coming and we're looking at Manitoba ie the Winnipeg area . Can anybody recommend a trucking company and/or a good area to live ?

Hi, and welcome to BE.

You don't mention it, but do you by any chance have PR? If not, then when were you in Canada? Unless it was very recently, then things have changed quite a lot for truckers since you were there due to the new LMIA requirements.

LMIA's are now 'rarer than hens teeth' according to truckers on the forum, so you might want to post in the trucking subsection to see if there any leads on companies hiring foreign drivers, as none of them have been at all for the past 6 months or so.

HTH, best of luck with it.

As oompa said LMIAs are very rare for truckers, I have heard TransX have some but they are the only ones in MB that may that i have heard of.
Are you a resident ??????

No I've not got PR, I'm just fishing around to see if things are starting to happen yet, until they do I'll keep sniffing and sit tight.

Are any of your family Canadian citizens? How long have you been absent from Canada for and are you meeting the residency requirements?

not being funny ,,,but the lethbridge Red Mafia are looking for drivers already in Canada with class1 " to help out drivers having to leave Canada due to not having PR" based Lethbridge or Winnipeg. This is advertised on other sites. Might suit if you arrive in Canada "for a holiday"

Re: Truck driver looking for work in Manitoba

First question is what do you want to haul, reefer, van, deck ????? Run Canada only or USA too ? the list of Companies would be huge. Forget anything to do with the oil patch for now though. Why MB ? You have friends or family there ?
A few questions i know but i'm a recruiter in the trucking industry and lived and worked in Winnipeg for a long time and can point you in the right direction if i know what your looking for.
For some income isnt the main priority either which can make a huge difference to who to apply to.

Re: Truck driver looking for work in Manitoba

Ok that changes everything, only one outfit in MB MIGHT have LMIAs is TransX but thats a rumor and i have yet to have confirmation they really have some and are able to use them. I know all the recruiters at H&R and they don't have any right now and have trucks parked against the fence due to the shortage of drivers overall.
I still read Truckstop News UK online and there used to be a lot advertising for drivers to come to Canada, there isn't ONE advert in there at the moment which should tell you the situation here in this industry. The last over seas ad they had was for New Zealand.

Are you a Temporary Foreign Worker who is already in Canada and has a Canadian Class 1 license?
Are you worried that your Work Permit will not be renewed?
Have you been told that you can't apply for Permanent Residency?
Do you live in the Lethbridge or Winnipeg area (or willing to relocate?)
We would like to hear from you.

Re: Truck driver looking for work in Manitoba

i have sent lyndon a message, last time i talked to Hutch in Calgary they had no LMIAs, It may be that their web site is way out of date, i'll wait and see what they say because if they have LMIAs i get lots of calls and i'll bat them on to H&R
Had some call and sounded obviously desperate as they where facing a one way plane ticket back to the UK so if anyone has them it would be nice to know.
Emailed Hutch too, see how long it takes to get an answer.

Hutch replied pretty quickly, seems they do have LMIAs but you must take all your paperwork with you to see them what ever they mean by that.

Update: Must take over seas criminal search and work history with you plus Canadian criminal search and work history here and go see any of their recruiters. ONLY for drivers already in Canada. (although Hutch didn't mention it i can assure you they'll want a commercial abstract too)
