travelling to Florida
 

We are looking to drive down to Florida , will there be any problems crossing the border with us being on a work permit ,living in Canada on a british passports. Do we need to buy a visa ?, someone said we had to pay $6 at the border but i do not want to get here and find we can not go.!

If you're eligible for the visa waiver scheme (no arrests, etc) then yes, you need to pay 6 USD for the green I94W card (same as you get when you fly into the US except the airline pays for it in that case). Cash or credit card, no foreign currency. They fingerprint you and photograph you, ask where you're going and why, and that's pretty much it. They're always friendly to Mr B and have never asked for proof of his status in Canada.

Remember to *ask* the Canadians to remove it from your passport when you re-enter Canada, otherwise they assume you want to keep it (it's valid for 90 days) and when you don't "depart" the US within those 90 days you'll go on the overstayers list, which is bad news. Don't panic though - there's a PO box you can send it to if you really forget to hand it back.
