Default Travel to US - ESTA/ Visas?

Faintly confused - we thought we'd go to the States for a couple of days and then land (woohoo) at Coutts on the way back. I assume four of us need ESTA authorisation, and the Canadian passport holding son (bless his cottons) doesn't? (It's very shiny and new and he hasn't used it before...)

If we land (woohoo) on the way back, does this mean that the next time we go, we still need valid ESTA, or not? (I know ESTA's valid for two years anyway, but thinking more long term) ie, we'll have PR, but not Citizenship...

<I thought my days of worrying about visas were over lol...>

We are on the last leg

Or shall I just book an appointment in Lethbridge?

I don't think you need ESTA if you are crossing a land border. Canadian pp holder just shows their pp at the border. British pp holders pay USD 6.00 at the border and get their visa waiver forms.

Don't need ESTA on a land border, only if your flying in.

You turn up at the border, show your passport, if it is EU, you'll be sent in to immigration, they will charge you $6US to get into the US and off you go (hopefully). When you come back do the same and tell the CDN border officer you are wishing to activate your PR permit.

If you fly in with an airline they do all the paperwork for you. If you fly in a private aircraft you have to do your own entry forms (online) 24hrs ahead of entry.

If you fly to the US, even for a stop over, you need to file ESTA in advance to get the bording pass.

Yuppers, we missed our flight a few weeks ago as we hadnt done it and didnt even know about it, airline told us it wasnt their responsibility to notifiy us of it when we booked......by the time we got the laptop booted, went through the 2 applications the check-in had closed, there was 5 of us trying to get it done So...now we have it and hopefully by the time it expires we will have citizenship !

Not if it's Cypriot, Polish, Bulgarian or Romanian ... a US tourist visa is then needed.

Same goes if it's a non-British citizen UK passport (other than Bermudian).
