Default Travel to Canada while LMO application is "in process"

Hi, does anyone know if it is advisable to travel to Canada while an LMO application in process. Would it be better to wait for the positive opinion or does it matter? Know of people who have gotten LMO's while in the country, we are waiting 5 weeks this week and still haven't heard anything so wondered if we could take the chance on going anyway. Any advice out there??? Thanx.

Totally up to you but I personally wouldn't take the risk just from past LMO experience, mine took 5 weeks to get a rejection and a further 3 weeks to appeal the decision. They are hard to get approved!!. Although if you have a nice nest egg to support you whilst your waiting you could in theory enter as a visitor for up to 6 months and that will give you time to get the LMO and work permit done etc. Bit of a risk though!.

Has your boss chased them up yet? I would have them call just to check they have all the required documentation etc and see if they are close to receiving a response, it should be assigned to an officer by now so probably just sat in a pile waiting to get done.

Hi, thanks for that.....yes, company have been in touch twice but have been told that it still hasn't been assigned to a programme officer. company said they too are frustrated at the length of time it is taking but they are confident that it will be fine so Im trying to be patient and hope it comes thru' soon. Do you mean just travel for a holiday or business trip, or move for good? If the latter, then I wouldn't risk it given the number of LMO's that are being refused at the mo.

Good luck, hope you hear soon.

Hi, was thinking that if we don't hear something soon would it be safe to travel over for 6 months and hope that during the time we are there things would start moving but obviously wouldnt do that if it had a negative impact on our LMO application.

I cannot understand why our's is taking so long and yet all these boards are saying it only took 3 - 5 weeks for theirs to be processed.

The company said yesterday they cannot get a timescale at all from Service Canada office.

Have had friends who got their's in both Alberta and Nova Scotia in 4 weeks.

Typically just when we decide that we want to live in Canada the processing time suddenly decides to be longer.

Im hoping that no news is good news or that the fact that we haven't heard means its going to be positive.

Please God it will happen soon because the not knowing is worse than the knowing. We can't move ahead with anything cos we are in limbo.

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully be posting something positive next time.

Take care,

They can take as little as 3-5 weeks, but they can also take up to six months, so don't panic just yet!
