Travel to Canada via cruise ship?
Hi Folks,
Just wondering has anyone made the trip over via the Cunard QM2 transatlantic cruise to Newyork and then travel upto Canada from there?
We are taking our dog with us next year and there isnt a massive difference in the price between flights etc, the unlimited luggage is also a bonus and the whole adventure of the trip sounds great.
We have landed already and have our PR cards etc so I'm wondering if there is anything we are missing in getting from the states into Canada at the border?
The dog will have all the pet passport vaccines etc covered.
Cheers
Neil.

We returned to the UK via the QM2, it was a great trip - it was the same price as a one way ticket from the prairies!
It was a great experience.
We had a huge amount of baggage and it all fitted in the cabin (standard 4 berth) but to connect from the airport in NYC to the apartment we rented for a few days and then to brooklyn, we hired a minibus. I cant see an issue if you already have PR, you will be just like any other tourist

Alternatively, you will need a US tourist visa.

Hey,
That's what we did ast year when we moved from Uk to Toronto. We travelled with the Queen Victoria.
First trip was from Southampton to New York , then one night there and then train trip from New York to Toronto (about 12h).
We were not landed yet and did that when crossing the border with the train (not recommended thought but it is a different story).
If you have your PR card then that will be enought to cross the US border when leaving the boat. No need of any return flight to UK. Just make sure your passport is valid at least 6 mont after the arrival date.
Enjoy the trip, this is great.

The Visa Waiver Program does not cater for those arriving in the USA on commercial transport with an intention to leave over the land border (unless you have a return/onward ticket out of the USA and its adjacent countries/territories). Otherwise, you need a US tourist visa.
If you have an onward commercial ticket terminating in Canada, that is acceptable if you are a legal resident of Canada.
