Just seen £1=1.755 and went onto Transferwise to make a currency switch only to find the system down due to maintenance...."Please bear with us while we make some important upgrades to TransferWise. It won’t take long and we’re very sorry for any trouble this may cause you."

I just looked at it and it now says.....
"We’re really sorry, but our website and apps are running slower than they should at the moment.
It may take a few minutes for new transfers to show up in your account, and our emails may take longer to arrive too. We’re working hard to get this sorted quickly, but thanks for bearing with us in the meantime."

I have been looking a Transferwise for the last year, I am retiring this year and very soon will own a SIPP once my Company Pension transfer gets sorted. My Son also lives back in blighty so looking at this for money transfers as well as birthday and Christmas money gift transfers. I do have a bank account back there to transfer money in and out from as well.
Would Transferwise be a good choice? The banks and money exchanges are charging at least 4 cents on the pound to buy, and more than that to sell.

Yes, transferred at 1.755 this morning at about 0900 West Coast, but was slow and rickety, had to make two transfers and cancel one because first didn't show up for 10-15 mins.

Wonder if they've installed the new wonder Intel patch that solves one problem and creates twenty more.

IMHO Transferwise would be a very good choice. I have used them for all of my transfers over the last 18 months and have made at least 15 different transfers for amounts from £100's to £LOTS (buy a house in Canada). Excellent rate, low charges, easy and very quick to arrive.

Seconded. We’ve been using it for a year now after a lot of research and we can’t fault it.

Thirdeded (if that is a status). I have and am using them. Only wish I had known about it when buying the house last year :ohmy: Good rate and arrives on time so far.

Well thanks for the feedback, looks like you have made up my mind on signing up for a Transferwise account.

It's not really a complaint because it's such a good service but my transfers always arrive one day different to what they said.

When I was first using them, their first email would identify the likely day and then a second email would say "taking longer than expected" and now the day after...but it would arrive on the original day.

Now they say should be there in 14 hours, but every one of those times it's been the day after - still within 2 days.

So if you make arrangements based on 14 hours, you might have a little difficulty. :o

Here's a guide to using OFX.

Step 1 - Enter Your Recipient

If you haven't already, click on the ‘Recipient' tab and select ‘Add New Recipient'. These are the bank account details of the person you are sending to. You won't have to do this every time, we conveniently save the details for your next transfer.

Step 2 - New Quote

Click the ‘New Quote’ tab
Select the currency you wish to buy or sell then enter the amount you need to convert
Click ‘Get Quote’ and 'Continue' if you would like to accept this rate.

Step 3 - Choose Your Recipient & Finalise

Select your recipient from the drop down menu
To proceed with your transfer, click on ‘Finalise Transaction'.

Step 4 - Payment

The final step is to arrange your payment to us
Our account details can be found on the deal confirmation provided at the time of booking. You can also view your available payment options from the "Our Account Details" tab.

Step 5 - Sit Back & Relax!

We will notify you via SMS or email every step of the way; firstly when we have received funds, and again when the funds have been remitted to your recipients' account.

Yes, they virtually always actually arrive in my Canadian bank account the working day after they say - no biggie.
