Default Transferring money between UK and Canada

i'd appreciate some guidance from those with experience/knowledge on this.
To fund a potential house purchase, we would need to transfer a fairly sizeable amount of money from the UK to Canada. The amount would be c.$300k CAD.
Is it best just to do it bank to bank, or are there smarter ways/cheaper ways?
Thanks in advance.

Transferwise or similar offers better rates than banks - my advice would be to check out with a smaller amount first

Loads of existing thread on TransferWise (one very recent), just do a search on this forum for TransferWise.

I used them for moving money around the amount you are talking also for house purchase in Canada.

Can only advise to shop around in the UK. TransferWise will work but at that size the fee might be higher than other agents so I'd shop around.

I transferred my house sale proceeds (UK to USA) using TorFx who gave the best deal I could find at the time I was doing it.

we used Moneycorp and they were really good and we got a slightly higher exchange rate - we also transferred a very large amount and then used them again for a few additional transfers..
