So, on the back of all the recommendations on this thread, I have just completed my first GBP to CAD transfer with Transferwise and I was suitably impressed!

I received the "going rate" at the time of transfer (minus the 0.5% fee of course) but what impressed me as much was the easy account set-up, the user-friendly interface and particularly the customer service. They were very quick to respond to my email query and you could also get somebody helpful on the phone without any painful delays or detours.

I will definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone wishing to move funds between countries.

Thanks again to all those who steered me in the direction of Transferwise.

You can even sign up to email alerts which will notify you when the rate is at its best over a 2 week period. I find that handy too.

Probably worth a heads up for larger sums they will require a form of ID, not sure if this slows down the overall process, but just worth noting.
