Trains, buses & cabs - Toronto

Just a quick question for the Toronto folks. How easy or otherwise is it to pick up a taxi at the subway stations? If there aren't usually taxis waiting around, are there any phone numbers anyone could recommend?
I need to get out east to Kingston & St Clair, so I was gonna get off at Warden and take the bus. But I don't like buses when I don't know where to get off, so I may splash out on a cab. If I can get one.

Well all the buses now have a ticker screen that tells you the next stop, and an audible notification. Plus the driver will tell you if you ask.

For taxis, just do what everyone else does, stand on the sidewalk and raise your hand as one comes along.

You could just walk from Scarborough Go station, it's about 800 metres to St Clair and Kingston.

I use Beck Taxi (416) 751-5555. An alternative is Royal (905)884-2222.

You'll likely find one at the station anyway.

Out of curiosity, what's the effnik composition of the two?

Funny how cab companies tend to be dominated by one effnik group.

Loyal Taxi is predominantly Christian Lebanese.

I agree with the Go Station, but I'd suggest just walking up to the corner of Midland & St Clair then waiting for a bus. According to Google Maps it's 1.7km instead about 800m.

The only thing I know of at Kingston & St Clair is the Crappy Tire.

Cheers guys, much appreciated. Given that I will have been in the country less than 24 hours and will have 2 very heavy cases to carry....I might just go for the cab option. But it's good to know the options for transit too, I'll be needing that, so thanks.

One you're established you can get downtown by taking the Kingston Rd bus to the Beach and then a streetcar. This is slower than the subway but is above ground so you can see a bit of the city.

If you've tried flagging down taxis in Belfast you're going to be amazed how easy it is in Toronto:thumbup:

Sounds lovely, can't wait to get exploring. The place I'm staying is only temporary, so I dare say I'll be touring the length of the city looking for jobs and apartments.

LoL, I think you have more chance of being hit by a taxi in Belfast than flagging one down. Although it is handy to be able to buy all manner of alcohol from the drivers selection in the boot (Not recommended).

 I've never heard of that before but I do remember going with a friend to a doggy taxi office in East Belfast in the early hours of the morning to buy a bottle of Vodka:eek:

Ha. I'll be getting all sentimental in a moment here  I'm gonna miss this place.
I really could not recommend the taxi 'swall' though, when you're not sure if you're drinking vodka or the taxi's diesel....then it's time to call it a day. *shudder*

If you've strong legs you could probably walk from where you're staying to the yacht club. I'm not sure if the bar is open to the public in the winter but it's a neat spot if a little chilly.
