Re: Toronto Suburbs?
I need to bring my focus back to the reviewing the areas...think I 'll run a parallel search into Calgary though as a back up

Friends who lived in Scarborough used to go Oshawa to buy drugs, at some rough nightclub on the service road north of the 401. If you're a fentanyl user Oshawa seems to be the place.

I mentioned Whitby in my post #35 - I don't know Ajax, Pickering and Oshawa so well - there are certainly parts to avoid but equally large residential areas that are family orientated. There has been huge residential development in this area, over the last few years but still ongoing, largely prompted by the expansion of the 407 east and more regular GO trains during the day - at least every 30 minutes. Good parking at all the GO stations helps too, and good bus access to the GO stations from many areas.

The Showa North is also ok, cheaper housing but as far as Oshawa South is concerned south of the 401 near Simcoe St., would be a place to avoid.
North East there is also Brooklin a up an coming small town demanding a higher price, very nice town
I live LA (Lower Ajax) and loves it, we are in a Court and share one another's garages for evening banter and drunkenness
I Have also lived in Scarborough, 6 years ago, and found it to be a rather tough neighbourhood. We was at Morningside and Ellesmere, a town home on Military Trail near the 401. We was ok when we lived there, but going back we wonder how we did, it's got a lot rougher there now.

Durham is generally cheaper than York, Peel, Halton.
Crime and scrote levels are lower than most of the roughest areas of the UK.

Just wanna add a place in Whitby to stay away from, the apartment buildings on White Oaks Court. Some extremely dodgy people living in that vicinity

Yes! These building have a terrible reputation. I asked our estate agent about them when we were thinking of renting for a year and he wouldn't even entertain the idea of taking us to see an apartment there. Lots of drug activity and vandalism apparantly.

Convenience store on site
Parkland behind buildings
Daycare on site with weekly parent and tot programs
Go Transit nearby and Bus stop at your door
Walk to plazas and grocery stores
Minutes to charming downtown Whitby
Moments to 401 and other major roadways
Government Casino a few minutes away

Re: Toronto Suburbs?
I was having a look around Ajax area, the south side of the 401...Duffins Bay, Clover Ridge, Pickering Beach, Southwood, lakeside all look nice houses, though still my budget would likely to have to be $550-700k.
I guess its slightly cheaper north side of the 401 and away from the lake but thats just a guess will need to actually look at it.
I am still really surprised at the pricing 50km from the city

Re: Toronto Suburbs?
Hey,
Just joined and looking for some recommendations on nice suburbs to research more into in Toronto.
We are a family of 4 and hopefully our dog will join us, we are looking to make the move around summer 2019.
When we move we will be 38, 37, 7 and 4 (dog would be 8) so we would be looking for fairly quiet living, good schools, nice area, somewhere with kids activities swimming, football, basketball and I guess hockey, close to some kind of shopping centre, and somewhere with dog walks.
Ideally as close as we can be to the city, but looking at our budget prob more likely to be approx 25miles (40km) out of city.
Would be looking for 3 or 4 bed house, garden budget would be approx £300k ($500k)
We would be renting at first then looking to buy in that area all going well.
Anyway if there are any family expats that can help or local families to name a few places and I can look more into the facilities and schools around.
Thanks so much in advance
