Tobacco Companies - Info Please
Hi
I currently work for a company that builds, repairs and upgrades cigeratte machines for companies like B.A.T, Philip Morris etc.
Does anyone know of any companies that do the same things in Canada. I also believe that the 'First Nations' also have companies, but i'm unable to find anything on the net. (I may not be looking in the right areas)
I have my visas and we will be heading to NS or Ontario in June. Any leads would be a help.
Many Thanks Matt

Hi Matt,
You may want to search under packaging machinery in the first instance and then find ones that specialize.
try these links

Yes, I was going to mention that. I have a feeling that as I understand the UK has now banned smoking in various places, it won't be too long before they ban the sale of cigarettes to the general public. If I were you I might be looking for a different job!!!
In Saskatchewan for quite a while people under 16 I think it is have not been allowed in stores that sell cigarettes etc. if they are on display. Cigarette machines would be accessible to all ages, so that is why there are none.
The First Nations decided that they did not come under Saskatchewan legislation and so you can still smoke on reserves and in Casinos on reserves, but many responsible First Nations people even object to that - I heard one on the radio the other day saying that he thought they should ban smoking for the good of the health of the First Nations people. So they might go the same way in the future.

Speaking of freezing temps it's been a tad nippy here in Calgary for the last couple of weeks.
So when I saw the Coke machine "outside" the local Safeway store today. I had to ask myself the question, when it's -30C does the Coke machine have a heater in it to warm the Coke to keep it from freezing.

Here in southern Ontario, we USED to have a large number of tobacco farms. Now 90 percent of them are growing peanuts or ginseng root, instead.
Here in Canada the percentage of people who still smoke is dropping yearly, compared to the UK where the number of smokers is still going up.
Canadian cigarette makers are still producing, but mainly for the export market, to China, and the old soviet union countries, and Africa. Why ? No regulations there.

Yes I see more and more " exotic brands " being sold in Toronto, such as ones from Africa and Japan.
The local "corner store " at the end of my street, run by Koreans, has stopped selling smokes, all together. He says that there was too much money tied up in inventory, that wasn't moving fast enough. And now he doesn't have to pay the taxes to the various levels of Government, on the tobacco sales. Less book keeping of course. The shelf space is now being used for other stock.
In our family and circle of friends, no one smokes any more. Our home owners insurance gives us a 20 percent yearly reduction in the rate, because we don't smoke, and our car will bring more as a used car because no one has smoked in it, ever.

"Smoking in Britain has fallen to its lowest level since records began, according to research released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS)."
