Hi Helen,

Yes that sounds great, I'd love to meet up when we land. It's funny that we are thinking of the same area and also doing our NVQ's, can't get over that! I enrolled for my NVQ 2 on Wed 1st (start Mon 6th), then received a phone call on Thursday asking if I would rather go for my NVQ 3 instead. I said I would rather do the NVQ 2 because I would just like to be a nursery assistant and not have the resonsibility of running a nursery. Was that what you were training for or was it for a teachers assistant? What is your job at the moment? I wrote to the cicic to see if they could give me any advice about the NVQ but they told me to contact a place in Toronto and they never bothered answering so I'm no futher forward. I'm pleased we didn't go to Ontario last year when the epidemic was on, mind you when we did come over this year I had problems of my own! I had to see the doctor and he said "you have got the worst strep throat I have ever seen (tonsillitus)." He then said I will give you some antibiotics and painkiller but you will not feel pretty ill for the next few days! He was right I felt terrible but Steve and the family enjoyed the piece and quiet! Being stubborn though I carried on not to be beaten! Then came home and got the shingles :scared: Never mind the trip was all worth it we found out alot of things and hope for a better life.
Where are you in Lancashire?
Take care away to before I meet up with Steve coming in off the nightshift!!

When you have found out if Early yrs & Childcare is recognised let me know, I have also been trying to do my homework as I am ploughing my way thru Early Years & Childcare NVQ level 3!!!!!!!!. To be honest I have kinda given up with it - negative attitude I know, I have completed only 4 units of 14 and cannot see me completeing it, with everything else going on. I am not under any pressure by my employers to complete it( they do not even know I am emmigrating!!) and therefore have no motivation. I have a high feeling it would be the case that we would have to get the qualification recognised as my sister in law in Ontario is currently doing an evening class to be an educational assistant (our classroom support) and I guess that our NVQ's would be on a par but would need recognising, unfortunately - let me know if you hear anymore.
You certainly did some travelling whilst you were over, we went June 03 (right at the peak of the epidemic -which was not good at the time as we were determined we were going but we faced huge obstacles at this end, but with determination we made it and hopefully it was the trip that will change our future!! On that note I will retire and speak to you tomorrow.
Buenos Noches!!!!

Hi Helen and Diane,
hope you don't mind me getting in on your conversation, but i am going to halifax next year, also as a special support assistant. I have been doing this for 6 years now and am head applicant on application to be education programme assitant. I don't think they reconise NVQ'S in canada. But i was intersted in that your sister is doing a course in canada now for the EPA, could you please tell me what the course is called. I would like to go to college when i arrive and do the course. Although i have done 2 years at college here (diploma in pre-school practice DDP,) and classroom assistants, and special needs courses, i feel i would be better to go on course there aswell. I called halifax school board where i have to join, and they said they couldn't do anything until i arrive, so will call them and get interview. You can't just ring a school and hope there is work going. There seems to be a big call for EPA in schools there, so hoping it shouldn't be difficult to get into.
I also live in lancashire, Burnley area.

Dear Bananahammock

Yes, I've checked the client e-status on the web site and guess what - yep it still says "In Process" - don't know why I bother looking on that thing!! I don't think it will change until they've made a decision which will be after the medicals, so it's a total waste of time!

The CIC site also, incidentally, says that the sponsor's responsible for 3 years for spouses and dependent children over 22, but for 10 years for others (or until a dependent hits the grand old age of 25).
Hey Rhodes!

This is correct, we're going the family class (spousal sponsorship) route and even though I have to go for the medical I'll get a waiver. Or at least, I should! Have type-1 (insulin dependent) diabetes but as the condition isn't contageous and doesn't endanger Canadians it shouldn't be an issue... Anyway, I'm well controlled and my blood glucose levels are generally in the 'normal person' range so that's another plus in my favour...

Now I just have to actually GO for the medical!

Hi JoD,

couldn't agree with you more, the e-mail status site is a total waste of time. It should tell you more information so you could get a rough idea of the time that you will have to wait, "in process" tells you nothing!

Hi Wensamjam,

I was pleased to hear that there was a big call for EPA's in schools. I hope this means there is also a big call for Nursery Assistants! Is that the right term for the job? Or do they call them something different there?

All the best
Diane

Hello Raily,

Yes we have, we rented one for 2hrs a while back, at wasaga beach. You can fit two, or two adults and kid or some of them, it's such a rush i'll tell ya

http://www.wasaga.com/seadoo/

We will like to get one of our own, and just hook it up to the van, the same goes for the power boat, but one can dream seadoos are about 10k, and you need a licence for it, just like a boat.

[QUOTE=railman]Hi Wensamjam,

Spoken to my sister in law, the course she is doing at evening class is viewable on the web. Type Georgian College Ontario, then go to 'Community Studies' and the course is Educational Support Worker, which you can click onto. Sorry cannot give you the course details in further detail but hope this gives you an insight! How far are you on are you with your application,?when do you expect to hear. Race you to Manchester Airport to get us out of here!!!!!
Bye
Helen
