Yes, the processing time for PR applications to Canada does take a very long time but this is a serious move, not to be taken lightly. I would not move to another country just because it has a shorter waiting time. Hence, this is why I am not posting on the OZ or NZ forums. Much too far away for my liking (amongst other things).

No, Canada is where we want to be, so wouldn't settle for Oz just because its less time to get in.

The two countries are worlds apart!!! We are in the midst of PR to Canada and it will according to the Canadian Government take us 42 months from August this year which is such a long time but it will be worth it though. However there are other ways to speed this process up which we are looking into one of which is PNP (Provincial nominee program). Most provinces have this and if you can get an employer to back you for this you could be there on a work permit very quickly and then a year or so later you will get issued your PR. A very fastrack approach however you need to find the employer that wants you and is prepared to sponsor you and then get the province to moninate you. The other is work permit which is a bit dodgy in so much that you may get it and you can put your PR app in and wait for that to come through in 4 years but if the company no longer wants you after a year etc you may have to come home (bummer). However i worked in Montreal in 2000 with quite a lot of english people and when i came home some of them managed to transfer there work permit to another company so it is possible

Not me, so if you are fishing for anyone slagging off the Visa process look elsewhere.
