Hi Steve_P,

Have read the reports, they didn't deter us. Wish I'd read them before we spent a small fortune on flights, house and car rental for a recce next year though!
Seriously, we want to come and look and get a feel for the place first, then we can weigh up all the pros and cons.
We are not looking for Utopia and lots of folk on here seem to be quite happy there.
Looking forward to the Calgary experience.
Regards

Its an interesting report. I like the fact that students in 2006 were the 2nd in the world for achievements and overall the education is a B.

As much as its not good though reading the overall report card with the 'c's and a 'd' it helps to read the not so good side so that we dont go in thinking everything is perfect and that "this is better then the UK and so is that" kind of feeling. There are issues in Canada as well as over here so its not all perfect but I still feel from the little I have seen and read that this is a land of opportunities, a fresh start and a better way of life for our children.

It hasnt put us off and hopefully next year we too will be going out for a reccie maybe at easter time and potentially to pick up the Visas which I look forward too.:)

Thanks for posting these Steve. We think it's valuable to share information that helps people to see that, great places that they are, Calgary (and surrounds) are not some sort of panacea. We think it's important that people don't have rose tinted specs on when emigrating and we don't subscribe to the "it's all wonderful here" line. It's suiting us very well but it's a different mix of good and bad, compared to our experience in the UK. Maybe chances of success in coming to Canada are enhanced when you have a balanced view of things.

Thank you Eamonn that is exactly why I posted the links, not to put people off but to inform, offering some of the bad along with the good.

Calgary has warts just like any other big city but suites me and my family very well and is likely to for the foreseeable future, however this may not be the case for all.

Cheers
Steve

Thanks for the links, Steve. I have added a couple of them to the Wiki article called Calgary Pros and Cons.
