Things that are cheaper in the UK vs Canada?

I am moving to Canada just over a month's time and curious to know what things are cheaper in the UK and Canada?

I've read clothes and over the counter drugs like ibuprofen are cheaper in the UK, anything else?

I just got back yesterday from a 3 week holiday in the UK and would say you are going to find very little cheaper in Canada than it is in the UK. Alcohol, food (especially deli foods), restaurant food, including tips and taxes, are much more expensive. Clothes are probably on a par and maybe electrical appliances are similar or cheaper in Canada. The big downside for you at the moment is the current exchange rate with the UK pound to Canadian dollar. A historical average around 2 to 1 exchange would give the UK pound a 20% better conversion rate to analyze the same question.

Fags and booze. Almost everything else is cheaper, or the same here in Canada when you convert back to pounds.

Decent clothes are definitely cheaper in the UK..petrol is cheaper here..N.American cars are cheaper eg Fords..European cars are more expensive like Audi or BMW..electronics are a little bit cheaper..food is about the same ...mobile phones are more expensive as are plans..tv/internet is more expensive but not by much..All is for my location it varies from Province to Province.

All in all i find for cost its about the same overall..but wages are higher so for me that is the gain.

Car insurance is very much more expensive here and I question the claim that houses are cheaper. Houses in Vancouver or Toronto are more expensive than houses in most of the UK (not London, of course).

At $1.64 to the pound, BMW prices here in Canada are actually slightly cheaper in many instances than UK equivalent models. Of course a better exchange rate may swing prices the other way, but a couple of thousand difference +/- is hardly a deal breaker if you've a $40k budget to spend on a new car.

And can afford to service and fix them as needed.

They are in NS. We are 40 mins outside of Halifax on 1/4 of an acre lot in a 5 bedroom house of over 2500 sq foot. It was $250k. Substantially cheape, larger and nicer than my GBP310k house near Reigate, Surrey.

Yeah and I wouldnt want to pay Toronto or Vancouver prices...at all

Our car insurance is bundled with our house insurance and its roughly the same as it was in the UK. I would have to confirm the monthly amount but we had max no claims in the UK and this isnt much different.

For Alcohol, I made a spreadsheet awhile back to compare prices: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

Gives you an idea of what's cheaper in Canada than in the UK. I've put in the current exchange rate of 1.65. Note it doesn't take into account sales and 2-for-1 deals or whatever. It's also using Ontario prices from the LCBO, so YMMV in other provinces.

Much as I like NS, 40 mins out of Halifax is more akin to 40 minutes out of Aberdeen than it is akin to anywhere in Surrey. I'm surprised you're on a quarter acre; where do you keep your horse?
