Is there a quota for Permanent Residency?
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to know whether there is a specific quota every year for Permanent Residency? If so how does that work? Thanks. |
Re: Is there a uota for Permanent Residency?
Yes, it is - although it is politically correct called annual immigration
target. Canadian Parliament approves such targets for each category every year. Current target is 235,000 immigrants in total - it includes about 135,000 immigrants in the Skilled Workers class (it equals to about 60,000 - 70,000 principal applicants). -- ../.. Re: Is there a uota for Permanent Residency?
Mr. Miller,
Are U talking about the Quota(No application will be accepted beyond the Max. Number permitted) OR the internal targets for the Immigration Department. IF the 1st scenario is true, in such a case, what happens when the No. of skilled Applicants' Quota is exceeds for a year. Do they stop/reject accepting skilled applicant' Applications for that year? IF the 2nd scenario is true, what happens if the Immigration targets are not acheived(I think they are always almost exceeding now a days....)? Will there be any relaxation of rules in processing? I hope this is a question that's creeping in the minds of a lot of people & we all are anxious to know! Can you please explain! Thanks again!! ~Raghu |
Re: Is there a uota for Permanent Residency?
It is an annual target approved by our Parliament. Once target of visas issued
for the year in any particular visa post is reached (as it is already happening in many posts) then no more visas will be issued until next year. But processing won't stop - cases will continue to be approved and only issuance of visa will wait till next year. And nobody will stop accepting applications. New immigration law established selection criteria and pass mark as moving target (or work in progress) - CIC will periodically analyze number and quality of pending applications and adjust pass mark as needed, up or down to keep number of approved cases within annual targets. Such adjustment will retroactively apply to all pending at such time and newly received cases. The goal is to keep numbers in check and prevent any buildup of new backlog thus to meet targets while keeping processing times in under 12 months. -- ../.. Andrew
What makes you believe that CIC will manage the migration program in a suitable way going forward (ie adjusting requirements to keep supply and demand in balance rather than letting an enormous backlog build up) when they patently failed to do anything to administer the pre-Dec 2001 system in a sensible way. Medical forms will be forwarded to you when it will be safe to assume that
background/security check is close to it's conclusion. -- ../..
