Is there a demand for Osteopaths in BC??
Hi,
Have been offered a place on a course to retrain as an Osteopath here in the UK. Is there much demand for Osteopaths in Canada? and is the UK qualification recognised in Canada?? Thanks |
Re: Is there a demand for Osteopaths in BC??
I don't believe that Osteopathy is recognised at all in Canada. Leastways not this side of the country.
EDIT: After a simple google, it appears I'm 100% wrong on BC. Lookee here: http://www.osteopathybc.ca/ and here: http://www.osteopathic.ca/ and lets hope the training includes how to search for information on the internet eh! |
Re: Is there a demand for Osteopaths in BC??
There is probably quite good demand for osteopaths in BC today, particularly in Whistler.

Thanks Where I live (Victoria BC) there is one Osteopath. I see him fairly regularly at the moment as I have a problem hip. As said before Chiropractors are more the norm. But, if you get refered to an Osteopath from your GP (like I did) then it is covered by MSP, which was a big difference from the Uk where I had to pay a lot to see one. Just letting you know my experience. |

I find it bizarre that OP physiotherapy isn't covered by health insurance but chiropractice and osteopathy are.

I suspect it depends on your health insurance. Mine (Great West Life) covers Physio, Osteo, Chiro and Massage to $500 total in any on year period. $500 doesn't go that far though.

Services Not Covered by MSP (In BC)
MSP does not provide coverage for the following:
Extended health cover may include some of these services. |
