TekSavvy Internet in North Vancouver?
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone is using TekSavvy internet in Vancouver? I'm about to move into an apartment in North Van, and wondering if they are any good? I'm a bit loathe to sign a contract with the other big companies as they are so expensive and just keep raising their rates every year.
I do stream Netflix so want something a bit reliable.
Any advice is much appreciated!

We're in Ontario and have been using TekSavvy for about 2 years. Very good service. No issues with the service at all We had one issue right at the beginning with the installation which wasn't their fault and they dealt with it right away with no delays to setting up our service.

Used them for years in Toronto with no issues as far back as 2012. I do know of other people who found it unreliable at times, but I didn't experience that. Maybe the very odd cut-out, but probably no more frequently than their competitors.

I live in North Van and would give anything not to use Telus/Shaw. I find Telus marginally worse. I'll look at Teksavvy too!

Been using TekSavvy in Ontario (outside Toronto) for 2 years now, no complaints at all.

Their monthly prices are not bad but after you consider installation fees and paying for your own router then it works out the same as the big 2 (or a little bit more expensive) so what exactly is the attraction?

So with TekSavvy, we have 25/10 internet for $47/month, plus $5/month for the dry loop. We bought the modem up front for I think $200ish (can't remember offhand), and then there was the setup fee of $30-50 (also can't remember offhand). We have 400GB/month and unlimited between 2am and 6am. For us that is pretty much unlimited.
In our area, the provider is Cogeco or Bell.
Cogeco:
I picked the UltraFibre 40 Unlimited, which looks spec-wise to be the closest to what we have with TekSavvy. Unlimited data, 40/10 internet.
Price is $65 for the first 6 months, then $100/month after that. Modem rental is $5/month.
Not sure if they have an installation fee or not, so I'll assume zero for the sake of this.
Bell:
Fibe 25 is 25/10, so exactly TekSavvy. It's $70/month with a $50 activation fee. Data cap is 125GB. Unlimited is an extra $15/month. I am adding that to make it comparable with Cogeco and TekSavvy. I can't easily find anything about a modem rental fee so let's assume zero.
Total costs:
Year 1:
TekSavvy: 200 + 50 + (48*12) + (5*12) = $886
Cogeco: (65*6) + (100*6) + (5*12) = $1050
Bell: (70*12) + (15*12) + 50 = $1070
Year 2 onwards:
TekSavvy: (48*12) + (5*12) = $636
Cogeco: (100*12) + (5*12) = $1260
Bell: (70*12) + (15*12) = $1020
So yeah, I'd say TekSavvy is cheaper, even accounting for the modem purchase, setup fee, and dry loop.
