Teeth Whitening
Has anyone had this procedure done? If so, did you get the results you were looking for and roughly how much did it cost?

Re: Teeth Whitening
My wife used to be a dental nurse at a private cosmetic dental surgery, and I got mine done for free (although it should have been about 500GBP).
Needless to say, if I was offered it for free again, I'd say No thanks. The procedure itself wasnt too bad, but every few minutes, I'd receive a shock that left me literally contorted in pain. This lasted for a few days afterwards, and would come and go without warning. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the worst pain I've experienced.... |
Re: Teeth Whitening
yep got it done - very good - took about 2.5 hrs - teeth are very white - I even had comments about it after - cost is around $800 (zoom system), but since the OT is a dentist it was a freebie :-)

Re: Teeth Whitening
I also had it free(paid for by an old employer) and I had some moulds made, given peroxide and had to do it every day at home for 12 days (I think). First two days were horrible as I have sensitive teeth and it killed. After that I manned up to it and the results were great. I have tetracycline staining and it made my teeth look quite normal. Unfortunately they need doing again now but I'm skint. A lot of practices off this same service for free if you sign up with them.

Re: Teeth Whitening
I believe this process is soon to become a compulsory element of the citizenship program.

What ? teeth whitening a procedure? can't you DIY in your wash room?

Re: Teeth Whitening
I'm a wimp, don't like the idea of pain at all. Is it normal for it to be painful and for the pain to last a few days, as per the other posters comments?

If you still have the moulds you can buy the peroxide stuff off the internet!!
Serioulsy there are those kits you can buy in the drug stores are there not? No idea how effective they are, however a quick google search should bring up some comparisons if you don't want to spend a fortune at the dentist. |
Re: Teeth Whitening
Here in The Peg we've just had a store front operation open for teeth whitening.
Its a franchise, and I am told they have a 2-week training course ??????????? Anyway, if I had my teeth whited they would think I was American. (is "whited" a real word?). |

Re: Teeth Whitening
I can't help but think this is not good for you. The fact that you are bleaching or stripping away a natural coating (and not just a layer of dirt) and the fact that it can be painful is not helping me change my mind
In the meantime, did you notice that all the medal winners all had the same teeth :sneaky: I'm a self-confessed wuss of the first order when it comes to the dentist chair, but I do honestly think they "over dentist" here (and "under dentist" in the UK). There must be a happy medium. Two of my daughter's friends had braces about 2 years ago. They are both set to have another set fitted this year. I suspect in the UK, they would have waited until they were this age (12) and just done it in one hit. In the meantime, the dental fees for the parents will make your eyes water. |
Re: Teeth Whitening
Isn't the methods used for teeth whitening known to cause oral cancer?
I have to admit, I never gave it a second thought in the UK, but now I feel slightly self conscious with my off white enamel devoid NHS teeth... |

Re: Teeth Whitening
Alternatively you could make up a little paste with some Bicarb of soda and lemon juice and brush your teeth with it. You might want to add a little toothpaste to the mix too as it tastes pretty funky! It'll help take some of the tea/coffee/red wine stains away - really does. I wouldn't recommend doing it more than once every two weeks though as it makes your gums a bit sore, even though my dental hygenist said it was fine to do it once a week.
A LOT cheaper too. |
