Re: Teaching Assistant
Hi there,
I am a Substiute Teachers Assistant in the Chignecto Regional School Board. This school board ( I can't speak for any other ) has very specific guidelines as to who can become a TA. The board normally only accepts qualifications from the Community College and they have thier own course that they offer there. However I brought over everything I had qualification/experience wise and gave it into their head office and they looked over it for about a week then told me they would accept it. So I was able to apply. When you get over you will have to book some courses though. Standard First Aid Crisis Intervention CPR level 3 I did all of these at the Community College for a few hundred $ so it is worth it as they won't even interview you without them. Anyway good luck and if you need to know anything else let me know. Julie |
Re: Teaching Assistant
In Ontario, TA's are required to have completely separate qualifications to teachers. A degree is a usual requirements, such as Special needs or Childhood and Youth Studies. I have an HLTA status from the UK and it was not recognised here, neither were my other Early years / teaching assistant qualifications. A teaching assistant here primarily works with children with behaviour problems and is not an assistant in the UK terms of the role.
I was able to get some experience by volunteering in a school and this proved to be very useful on my CV when job hunting. Good luck :) |
