Teach English to adults in Canada - possible?
At 50, not much money, seeking a life in Canada, qualified to MSc level in tech subjects, currently Adult English teaching - what are my chances?
Is there a demand for English teaching of adults eg Quebec or everywhere?
I think my points are just about enough on the online calculator.
Any advice welcomed.

There's been lots of threads about teaching in Canada and I believe that the general concensus is that there are hardly any jobs teaching anything.

Yes, teaching English as a foreign language will be your best bet. There are couple of people who do it here in back of beyond Yarmouth. but it doesn't pay hugely I don't think...

Could maybe go up to Fort Mcmurray (AB) for a couple of years to earn and save some $$$ then start your own small ESL school in Vancouver/Toronto.
If you can teach French, Quebec has French program for new immigrants, and opportunities for teachers I believe.

Re: Teach English to adults in Canada - possible?
Hi There
I am a qualified ESL teacher living in Toronto. Currently a stay at home mum as not worth my while to go back to teaching (not enough permanent well paid ESL teaching work to warrant the cost of childcare). I did teach ESL and Adult Literacy in Leeds college for 4 years before moving to Canada.
I did teach for 2 years here before having my first son - mainly working in private language schools where it is reasonably easy to find work here in Toronto but the pay isn't great (between $15-25 an hour depending on experience). It is very hard to find work with the government ESL programs which do pay well ($40 an hour) as need to be accredited by the provincial TESL organisation (TESL Ontario in my case) which requires a long ESL teaching course and then positions are very difficult to get.
Even with 6 years experience and a masters in TESL, it was not easy for me to find well paid/permanent work in Toronto.
In order to work for a private language school which is your best option you will need to do the 4 week CELTA course. Costs about 1000 pounds but is the minimum requirement to teach in Canada. Offered in many places in UK.
Hope this helps. Let me know if need any more info.
Lucy
PS Adult Education Teachers were on the list of in demand workers for Federal Skilled Program back in 2009 when we applied but sure not the case now so having points is prob not enough.

I thought this was probably the case. My Husband has been offered a job in Canada but I'm a High School English Teacher and also CELTA qualified and experienced, so not expecting to work within my field of work. Looks like a career change for me!

Will you have a Spousal Open Work Permit? If so, that may make a big difference.
