tax help.. Student without a SIN
So today my husband and I went to file out taxes. Which was fun...not.
I'm on a study visa and without a SIN number. When we filed our taxes today, we thankfully got a refund. However, because I don't have a SIN number I was unable to file my daughters childcare and my tuition costs. My study visa will not allow me to get a SIN number (issued pre june 2014). I did not know I needed one. SO my hubby's taxes have been filed by H&R block. Is there anything I can do now to have my fees etc accounted for? I'm presuming we may be missing out on a bigger refund??? |

I'm not a tax expert and I'm sure someone will be along to give more definitive advice, but...
While this won't help you immediately, you can store up your receipts etc until you do get a SIN and can make a tax return. Of course, you'll need earnings against which these expenses can be offset. |

if you can't get a SIN , then you should apply for a ITN
T1261 - Application for a Canada Revenue Agency Individual Tax Number (ITN) for Non-Residents |
