Tax Back When Leaving Canada

Hi

I will be going home in maybe a month or two,I will have been here in Saskatchewan almost 2 years.

Will it be possible for me to claim some tax money back when I leave?

Is it worth doing and how would I go about it?

Thanks in advance

You fill in your standard tax return.

If you are owed money they will send it to you.

I think you have a legal responsibility to submit a tax return so I would.

If you are due a refund, you will have to file a tax return. If you leave early in the tax year, you may well be due some tax back.

You don't get tax back just by leaving the country.

The visitor rebate program for GST/HST was replaced on April 1, 2007, with the Foreign Convention and Tour Incentive Program (FCTIP).

Thanks for the replies

I came here on IEC visa in May 2014

I know I sound stupid, but I didn't realise I had to file my own tax return, until now.

Can I still do it or will there be some kind of penalty?

Also will it be easy to do myself?

If you owe tax there will be penalties and interst. If you are owed a refund, you get the money back, but no interest.
